What's new

IOC-2 of LCA Tejas delayed by one month , new deadline is November

no offence but it really is becoming a laughing stock now so many delays, one followed by another and then another ......iaf soon going to have rafale and fgfa while the developed countries like US will move onto 6th generation then wat will be the significant of an aircraft like lca ? for a country like Pakistan which has crippled economy it makes sense but for a country which has many folds more budget and economy why to bother ? i can understand it will be a milestone for hal and you guys but achieving a milestone is one thing but the actual significance of the achievement considering the current situation is another thing....its like hal shoving lca down the throat of iaf ...the last scenario we can think of .....if the aircraft doesnt enter into mass production in 2013-14

One-two month delay is fine.

One-two month delay is fine.

looking at the retrospect i doubt that its just gonna be a one-two month delay.......you guys know more than me about how the project is lingering around ....and your airforce needs some serious replacement for its older aircrafts like mig-21s and jaguars

For IOC-2 which supposed to be in Sept-Oct, will be in Nov. 1. After which LSP-7 and LSP-8 will be handed over to IAF for user trails(only test pilots of HAL flew it til now). And we really hope that, once IAF gets a hand on it, they will love it like Arjun Tank.

it takes typically 2-3 years for moving an aircraft from IOC to FOC stage....

getting FOC by dec 2014...i seriously doubt it....yet my hopes remain high

LCA is supposed to fill the gap of a small, can do anything-but not the specialist kind of aircraft. If you suppose the MKI,Rafale etc as the heroes ,LCA will be the sidekick. LCA has a lot of relevance a far as IAF is concerned as it will fill the numbers.

And for the delays,LCA is supposed to be in service atleast till 2030, and therefore I wouldn't mind these delays. If LCA dosn't enters into the service even after the coming of the Rafale, then I would start worrying.

Jaguars-no.
MiG-21 (non bison varients) & MiG-27-yes.

Why this slow poisoning?Just be honest with the people of india and give one final date.Say ok we will have fully functional jet 2016.Whatever.Fools.

Many of the older jaguars will need replacement as well, within this decade.

IAF ordered 40 odd new jaguars some years back, others are going deep upgrade.

To understand the significance of the project one must understand that the LCA project was not just started to give the IAF 100-150 stop gap aircraft to stop force depletion. It was a project designed to create an industry from scratch in a country that had absolutely no aviation history of note. Consider the developed countries; they started developing string and wire contraptions with tractor engines and it was state of the art then. After that more than a hundred years of evolution has led to the F 35s and the Boeing 787s. All countries that did not start then have to play catchup.

While I am not defending the delays one must realize that even if the LCA program fails completely (hopefully it wont ) the LCA still will be the starting point of the Indian aviation industry. Design is always evolutionary, and as such starting from scratch, with no knowledge and absolutely no idea is always the worst. That does not account for the delays. But I hope it answers for the question why it is significant. India had to start designing sometime. Maybe cause it started in the 1980's , another 30 years down the line India will be able to design something state of the art. Self reliance is not achieved in one or two generations.
