There are always 2 sides to a story. As far as I know the invigilators(belonging to the ant-cheating squad like the women under question) are like Police profilers..and can detect cheaters from far away. What if the girls were really cheating and is using the Dalit and stripping card to gain sympathy?

strip searching should be done in private not in front of other students. are they that dumb or just arrogant? either way, such uncivilized people don't deserve to work in schools.

.
Whats your point ? can't you identify a dalit with her name ?

Not sure. In this thread itself my misconception about determining caste based on name was cleared by a fellow member.

no you cannot. and the invigilators don't work in the school but are appointed by government just during exams. So they may not know the students personally.

How could their time loss will be compensated? if they are not found to be cheating. Its a judgement call gone wrong. Again the word 'stripping' is highly misleading.

Nice try, you gotta get up pretty early to pull this one off !!

The survey covers 11 states and 540 villages. Certainly very relavant today. Life in the rural India has not changed much.

Here is a link to the book,

Untouchability in rural India - Ghanshyam Shah - Google Books

Did You even read what I said? :undecided: With such comprehension skills I won't have get up early if I ever have to pull anything off in front of you!

I said that the Survey was conducted by Action Aid in the year 2000, and it was funded by Christian Aid(different organization).

Now why would you show me the google link for the the book and show me that Action Aid is a secular organization?

This short and useful book is based on a nationwide field survey undertaken by the NGO ActionAid in India in 2000, to document the incidence and extent of the practice of untouchability in rural India.

How do you know for sure the examiners don't work in the schools or in this particular instance the examiner was not from the school ?

So if the other side of the story is if these dalit girls were cheating per say! was/is acceptable to strip search these girls infront of 40 other classmates ???

.
Whats your point ? seems like you are not siding with the victim here ?

Until a clearer picture emerges, I am not siding with anybody.

Its still unclear how much of this 'stripping' was done.

What is unclear - have you read the article ???

Invigilators Preeti Sharma and Reshma Semaiya, acting on the suspicion that the girls were hiding pieces of paper to cheat during their mathematics exam, asked them to strip. When the girls refused, the invigilator duo themselves reportedly stripped the two girls in the presence of the boys and some other girl students.

Nothing, however, was found on the girls to prove the charge.

Out of shame, the girls did not inform anyone about the incident until Friday, when they broke down before their parents, who complained to the district administration.

Wow this stupid thread is still going? I mean those involved have been sacked and if there is a criminal case police will follow, including under dalit protection laws if that angle is relevant. I don't think it is, just because two dalits are involved...

Whats there to discuss? Haven't you guys heard of worse? like kids getting raped in schools and madrassas and churches? This is a small matter in a big country and is clearly illegal, clearly reported widely by media and clearly resolved as per law. Take your stupid moralising someplace else.

Not in the examination hall infront of 40 male classmates, stripped searched by force...

Again the word 'stripped' is used. It can also be asking to remove the shawl of the churidar that they were wearing. Is it part of the clothing..yes, but is their modesty is outraged..i don't think so.

You don't trust your minorities do you ? it clearly states when they broke down before their parents, who complained to the district administration. why would a girl break down if it was just a shawl ?

The Hindu : States / Other States : Teachers sacked for stripping girls in exam hall

Two women teachers, who allegedly forced two Dalit girls to strip in an examination hall on the suspicion that they were hiding material for copying, have been given notice for termination of service.

The deputy in charge of the examination centre has been served suspension notice.

The incident occurred at the Government Middle School, Barahbada, on March 15 during Class X examinations. The teachers, Preeti Sharma and Reshma Sonia, had allegedly asked the two girls to strip, though male students were also present in the exam hall.

The District Education Officer (DEO) served the termination notice on the two teachers and the suspension notice on the deputy in charge of the centre J.K. Naihar, sources said.

The police have registered a case against the accused charging them with relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
