Insight into Pakistan’s Relationship with China, U.S., and Russia | Mushahid Hussain

. .
The first capable politician I have seen in Pakistan, I vote Mushahid Hussain for PM/President of Pakistan!

This war of words will go on. If we were to remain allies with the US would we have been any better off?. US Pak alliance has been a bitter-sweet experience for Pakistan due to transactional nature of the US and more importantly, our understanding of the western mindset. Whereas alliance with the Soviet Socialist Russia might not have been any better, I think this is the right time to set our radar in the right direction. The basis of this change is regional connectivity and enhanced trade relations without siding in any wars. Pakistan should establish relationships with all states and especially regional powers to enhance its trade avenues. Pakistan has traditionally been ignoring the russian and central Asian markets for fear of losing the western maket access. China has proven that trade reigns supreme despite having a spat with the US. So why can we not do the same.
The other issue is one of armaments. It would be fair to say the US has remained our firm supplier so far. The rest of our quality stuff has either been coming from EU or where we cannot find anything else we have bought it crom China. The calculis has altered significantly since the Chinese have come leps and bounds since the early 2000s and their military stuff is now of really good quality. US on the other handhas been playing games with us and its refusal to give us the F16s after having received payments has really put an element of mistrust in this relationship. Subsequent reneging after having agreed to give us 8 block 52s and 15 AH1Zs on part payment from our resources and part payment from CSF has really brought out this negativity in the relationship out into the open. Pakistan consequently has walked put of both deals.
China is fast becoming our go to for any of our defence needs and the US has only otself to blame for this fiasco.
So going ahead this line of thinking will continue in Pakistani deeper state. The real question is will it invite the ire of the West. The answer probably is YES. Will we be able to sustain it, possibly. How long will it go on forthe answer is not for long.
Sanctions may set us back economically but a bit more fiscal discipline will foil mich of the after effects. The US still needs Pakistan so will not want to alienate it totally. Evwntually there will be acceptance of our stance on this situation and things will become better for Pakistan. If softer measures like hybrid warfare and attempts at regime change are not allowed to work there may again be a carrot and stick approach with some offerings. It seems US infatuation with India is rapidly voming to an end. The question is whetehr it will reach out to Pakistan again and with what?
Herein lies the game and how the chess board is/set up.
My views remain mine alone and therefore could be totally wrong.
A
