One of the commenters under tweet, offers a pretty logical 3 point:
1. Relations with Israel are on the way to recovery.
2. Russia has officially started to threaten nato and wants the borders to go back to 1997.
3. The East-med ultra deep gas pipe project trashed. (The USA has realized that a design that excludes Turkey is not feasible.)

The way for the US to tighten the screws in NATO is to understand Turkey's national interests and concerns.

IMHO, I hope Turkey does not return to the F-35 project. This is not the only point of opportunity that the US-Russia tension will offer.

.
The F-35 program is a double edged sword, but IMHO, Turkey has not reached technological, political and economic milestones to be able to go it outside of the western alliance, so better to get back in the program then to be out.

As long as Turkey can keep its parallel defense programs going as well as makes progress in its economy and political stability it maybe able to protect its interests.

no its goods news and Turkey should buy F35

plus they will get chance to build parts

Turkish can learn too much from this programme and all national pride should be put aside

Look at Japan and South Korea buying top tier equipment but still developing their own

Turkey should do exactly the same it will speed up the TFX project

if true its very very good news

too many Turk and Muslim haters in the US senate, along with the Armenian, Greek and Israeli and PKK/YPG lobby, I don't really see it happening.

Turkey isn't diffusing that as well as it should, they should destroy the economic case for it, by Building a Iraq Turkey gas pipeline(that maybe even connects to Saudi or the UAE if they agree to this alternative path instead of pumping gas to Egypt or Israel), it would make any deep water Mediterranean pipeline moot purely on economics.

Turkey was not JSF's customer, but one of the 9 partner countries involved in production and maintenance planning. In the last 3 years, we have seen that the offers of the USA other than the original supply plan could not go beyond one-sided approaches and no results could be obtained.

Turkey has already prepared a new roadmap to a large extent. Even if the F-35 is returned, it is not difficult to foresee that they will be in very limited numbers. In Turkey, billions of lira worth of infrastructure investment has been made for the F-35, and there are air bases (such as Malatya Erhac) that have completed their suitability for the F-35 operation. Therefore, several fleet acquisitions and bringing them to operational level can happen very quickly and cost-effectively. However, as I said, Turkey will not want to buy a system with limited effectiveness.

If Turkey is asked to joined back by the USA then Turkey must insist on the restoration of all commerical and industrial rights and lost financial gains to it industries as compensation aswell ...

Total of military aerospace and defense exports to the USA in 2021 is 1 billion 128 million dollars. Nearly all of this is aviation and engineering services, as well as most of this segment is F-35-related exports.

With the money earned from the F-35 project, I think 2 fleets of fighter jet can be bought.

It would be quite ironic if SSB bought aircraft from Sukhoi while Lockheed was paying suppliers such TAI, Aselsan, MIKES, Alp etc. Fortunately, we are not at that level yet. There is still hope.

Strings attached. Nothing is free.

The F-35 program is a double edged sword, but IMHO..

If there is to many strings then it will be declined rest assured besides Turkey has no pressure to get it because they have allegedly a superior one coming up in TFX it is being build to best the F-35 hence there is no pressure on them to get it but if they were to get it then it will be good addition for bulk but definitely not necessary if UAE can reject and go with better other options Turkey has even better options... Turkey's reaction is more like Hmm Yes! No! Maybe--

This is technically a period where F-35 is not on turkey's highest priority as they are awash with alternatives but this will just be virtue signalling in their relations improving alot recently..

It'd be interesting if Turkey could get several dozen F-35Bs. Perhaps the DoD can 'sell' the idea to Congress on the grounds of "it's only 24 planes, it won't make a big difference." That way, Turkey can get its dream maritime fighter for TCG Anadolu.
