INSAS Excalibur & MCIWS Ghatak Assault Rifles to Replace Indian Army's Standard Issue INSAS Rifles

.
Instead of incorporating all these junks they should find a foreign partner and any indian private defence company to make the weapon in india. PSU are just horrible in design and quality.
What made you think So,OFB made weapon's are in use of IA for Decades it is being used successfully by Armed forces in every war we fought. What made you think any newbie private firm will beat decade's old experience of OfB.

Derived from the famous INSAS weapon systems of India which have been tested in large scale infantry combat, anti-terrorist and mob control situations, this weapon is called the INSAS EXCALIBUR MARK-I incorporates, in addition to the features of earlier INSAS Weapons, certain characteristics which makes it truly the ultimate sword- THE EXCALIBUR. ASK the jawans who fought battle with these junks then you might change your view .

MCIWS looks promising. Better than the present INSAS replacement. That should be the way to go building a weapon instead of experimenting with new designs. Would like more details on that project.

By having fairly evaluated all the rifles ( Indian Foriegn ) Army should have given best equipment available.
Made in India should'nt be at the cost of putting jawan's life at risk in a combat.

You should give a tender and this Gun from DRDO should compete for the order against Gun from around the world than select one.

I guess you failed to see we had issued the tender and all the guns failed so we retracted the tender . This particular gun which is being introduced is closest of IA's requirements. Army required just one permissible stoppage and this gun had just one more than the required . So you see this gun had been undergoing tests like other guns.

Issue the tender again bring best companies with best products test Guns vigorously and than select the best one.

MCIWS's design is influenced by both the AR-15 and the FN FNC. The barrel assembly appears to be based on the AK-47. The design would allow soldiers to configure it according to the needs of the missions by changing rifle barrels. The assault rifle is configured to fire in 5.56 NATO, 7.62×39 and in 6.8 Remington SPC. The MCIWS uses a gas operated short stroke piston design.

The rifle would use 30-round plastic-type magazines. It would also be ambidextrous features, such as the charging lever and magazine release.

The MCIWS would include an underbarrel grenade launcher to fire airburst-type grenades. Various sights can be mounted on the picatinny railing on the upper receiver.

It was first seen at the DEFEXPO 2014 exhibition. They are currently undergoing in-house small arms trials with three prototype rifles made for testing at ARDE.

India's gonna make another blunt move by using their home made weapons. I mean this is not going to meat the qualities and specs of international weapons.

What would be the point to test the same guns again, the guns that were tested already failed army's requirement, since the guns have to work in the extreme environment of Siachen to Deserts of Rajasthan and the dense humid environment of Southern states. So it would be quite impossible for the guns to pass all the different environment, it is similar to what the US army went through with the M-16 where they had problems with the gun during the Vietnam war which were rectified as time went on. Same was the case during the wars in Middle East there were problems early on which were later rectified. Very few guns can operate in such extremes and those that can come with a hefty sticker price. Rather than going with a foreign gun and then paying the manufacturer to modify the gun which would again take ages and lots of money it would be better to tweak the current gun and work on MCIWS.

Just keep issuing tenders ?? It's hard to satisfy IA.

Last tender was issued in 2011-12 . So it will take another 3-4 years to go threw the process again. Time and budget both are constraints. As I said IA has seen threw what international vendors can offer. They seem pretty satisfied with home made one.
