What's new

INS Arihant will miss December deadline

SO no problem with the reactor, that's a good thing. The delays are due to the other components, with that said does this mean that the new Sub (second) will be similar to the Arihant or will it have some changes?

The prototype of Arihant reactor has been running successfully at kalpakkam for the last 6 years . So the reactor is fine.

" A miniaturized PWR reactor, like the one on the Arihant, became critical inside a simulated submarine pressure hull at Kalpakkum on 11 November 2003. It was declared operational on 22 September 2006
has been running successfully since then.

The test reactor is fitted on a 42-meter-long land-based prototype submarine with eight compartments housing complex electrical and control systems and simulating ocean conditions

^^ But this report also quotes

"The ATV will reportedly be equipped with 12 launch tubes of 2.4m diameter each. Initially, each missile tube will likely accommodate 3 0.74m diameter K-15 Sagarika missile. Later the tubes could accommodate the 2.0m diameter Agni IIISL (The submarine launched version of the Agni V / Agni 3+) missiles with MIRV capability."

Misreporting or something fishy ....................;)

no, it's a big mouth news

Why is your a$$ on fire ???

According to earlier sources INS Arihant has completed harbor trails and ready for deep sea trails. Is this news reliable!!!

According to the report ATV has a diesel power generator too. My guess they used diesel power to conduct sea trials... :P

Its common for the first version to take a long time, so don't be surprise if there are more delays of years on this project.

Perhaps you're right. It is important to get the system battle ready and still accept a one or two year delay rather than inducting now and suffering incomplete work during war.

Hi guys, pks says Arihant went critical few months ago. I also believe the same. It seems they are in the process of increasing the power step by step to check each system.

Not if the purpose of disclosure is for political purposes. Just hope this project does not delay like another LCA. Subs are more difficult to construct. And India is the first to build a nuclear before a conventional one.

Eh.. just like you are the first one to evolve into a monkey from human parents.

INS Shalki.. dear...

What is pks ???

From a january 2012 report :

"Each and every sub-system was checked and re-checked, along with high-pressure steam trials of all the pipelines, before the miniature 83 MW pressurized light-water reactor, fitted in a containment vessel on board the over 6,000-tonne INS Arihant, went "critical'' last year, said sources."

Guys, this is a big leap forward by India from importing diesel powered subs to manufacturing indigenous nuclear powered submarine. Give the guys a break....a few months delay is not that bad if it's most critical parts are up and running.
