Infiltration bid foiled along LoC in North Kashmir



The army on Tuesday foiled a major infiltration bid in a fierce gunbattle near line of control (LoC) in which nine militants have reportedly been killed. The encounter took place last night in north Kashmir's Keran sector.

According to Army public relations officer (PRO), Naresh Vig, a group of 8-9 militants were trying to enter into this side of the border when the encounter took place. He confirmed all the militants have been killed but bodies have not been recovered so far.

Army reportedly spotted a group of militants near Heena post last night and challenged them. Militants opened fire to which which the army retaliated. 8-9 militants are believed to be killed in the gunfight. More details are awaited.

Three militants are believed to be killed in the gunfight which started early Tuesday near Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district.

Suspicious movement of about eight to nine persons was noticed in the area between the LoC and fencing in Furkian gali in Kupwara, a Defence spokesman said.

On being challenged, the militants opened fire which was retaliated. Sources said that at least three suspected militants were killed so far in the ongoing gunfight on the LoC.

“Heavy casualty is expected on the militant side. However, the operation is still in progress as intermittent exchange of firing is going on,” the spokesman said.
