What's new

Indonesian vice president meets with senior Chinese military official !

if you want to become a leader, found a new club. there is no place for a permanent leader in ASEAN. I don´t remember that anyone calls you as leader.
Indonesia influence is virtually non-existent in the region. I don´t blame you if you begin to believe to your own propaganda.

ASEAN IS our club. No Indonesia No ASEAN. Not the other way around. Who else can keep this clusterfuck of a group to work together?

LOL this is coming from a guy who spout propaganda every second in this forum :P (oh the Irony) Other than the fact that we are THE founding members of ASEAN let me try to recollect, remember who manages to scrap the kerfuffle that was Cambodia, who manages to convince all the other ASEAN states to accept you backward country to join in the 1st place. Who was appointed to mediate between Thai-Cambodia skirmish? and many other things too numerous to mention since Bangkok.

Vietnam is not even our equal. Hell you guys even suck compared to Philippines (where's your country vaunted "high IQ" now? :P)

BTW, i wonder how Indonesian will be under Jokowi, he is not as Internationalist as SBY, surely he will pursue Indonesia national interest first than collective regionalism. It will be interesting enough to see Indonesia abandoning ASEAN, and left the Singapore to take care all the shit :P

can you introduce the policy of the new man. what is his agenda?
is it a serious discussion of leaving ASEAN?

.
Indonesia is in no position to be a leader of ASEAN.

first, a muslim country can never have any influence on Vietnam.
second, ASEAN has a rotating chairman. The system is fair and works well. That hinders a big country to impose their will on other smaller ones. Indonesia voice is as important as Brunei.
last, oh yes, Japan is the country best suitable and capable to lead Asia. China is disqualified.
Indonesia has more world power cloud than you are and is being view by most outsiders as the leading country in ASEAN. It is not up for debate because you don't like it, my friend.

his agenda? he is rather want to pursue bilateral relationship diplomacy with other World powers rather than to engage them by regional forum vehicle like ASEAN, what he want to seek is to pursue Indonesia National Interest first. Leaving ASEAN? yes it has been much discussed in close panel of Indonesian Senior Diplomat since 2006, what we want to seek, what we want to pursue, and what we gain from ASEAN and comparing it with the result of Indonesian bilateral relationship/cooperation. It has been major opinion article in Major Newspaper in Indonesia since then, leaving ASEAN is not something impossible from now on for Indonesia.

.
It's no surprise Viet is living in denial once again while trying to portray the importance of his jungle nation part of the ASEAN community. Everyone agrees here the role Indonesia plays in ASEAN except Vietnamese here.

what I observe is Indonesia seems to advance nationalistic economics agenda, such as restriction of export of raw materials and other means to limit foreign ownership.
If Indonesia leaves ASEAN, that will not only weaken the club, but you, too.

even if you just keep repeating the bullshit 1,000 times. ASEAN is not yours.

can you post here any citations from the Chinese government saying Indonesia is leader of ASEAN?
or from Japan, Russia, Australia or other major powers?

posts from delusional Chinese and Indo posters don´t count.

Does Japanese government or Japanese emperor post official statements America is the real leader of Japan? Because it is America that dictates Japanese foreign policy.

so it is you who decides Indonesia is the leader of the club?
can I say Japan is still your master?

Viet always can dreaming, their diplomatic cloud even can't be compared with Singapore let alone Indonesia

.
Which is why i don't take them serious in this forum. The exaggeration, the lies, the overstatement of Vietnam's importance in ancient times to this day is beyond believable. Without Vietnam there is no ASEAN it seems

LOL this is coming from a guy whom country still uses the Socialist system. Newsflash dumbass, every country in the region have a some sort of protectionist policy in play. Indonesia will not be weaken if it decided to leave ASEAN because it is already has been weaken! We sacrifice our interest for the group. If we decided to leave ASEAN the only way we can go is up. That is why the debate of leaving ASEAN is not controversial at all because most of us will just celebrate it if we do.

even if you just keep repeating the bullshit 1,000 times. ASEAN is not yours.
Despite the facts that we actually do rule ASEAN. Well that's hard.

No, because there's a political repercussion when admitting to something like that. Everybody know that N. Korea is a Chinese puppet, but can you find a news article from the US government admitting that? So does Israel & etc.

Although the Australian Government does admit that we are the leader of ASEAN.

Nevertheless an independent sources are still the best source of information than the government. Like this 4 example:

As the biggest country in Southeast Asia, Indonesia is a natural leader of ASEAN. For decades since the association was established in 1967, Indonesia has played an important role maintaining geopolitical stability in the region. This leadership has recently become more demanding due to border disputes within ASEAN and China’s territorial claims in the South China Sea.

Indonesia also assumes leadership on ASEAN economic matters, albeit, some would argue, not sufficiently actively. Still, at the Bali Summit in 2003, Indonesia was bold enough to introduce the establishment of an ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2020 (later accelerated to 2015) as the central ASEAN objective and, more recently, during the Bali Summit in 2011, putting in place the Regional Economic Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) by 2015.

Why Indonesia needs to lead in economic integration | East Asia Forum

You see? not only we have been there from the start through the good & the bad, but even the AEC itself is our brain child.

So much jokes from our Viet friend here, they think highly for themselves but surely they are dirt poor in the purse. Come on, a regional leader who can't fund such a measly International games like Asian Games what kind of regional leader it is? A regional leader should have a deep pocket to finance their project in the regional forum, that's why only Indonesia and Singapore can fit the role. And those Singaporean is more than gladly to abandon ASEAN with us and pursue their own interest

This is from AP (Associated Press) which is usually in line with US general policy:

" U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry congratulated Widodo soon after Tuesday's official result, and hours later, President Obama called the president-elect. He pointedly stated, according to a White House statement issued Wednesday, that "through this free-and-fair election, the people of Indonesia have once again shown their commitment to democracy."

Working with current President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who has served since 2004 and will cede power Oct. 20, Obama has cultivated a stronger U.S. relationship with Indonesia as part of his administration's effort to "rebalance" American foreign policy toward Asia. Obama, who lived in Indonesia as a child, visited the country twice during his first term.

The two nations declared a comprehensive partnership in 2010, and cooperate on areas including health, environment, education and regional diplomacy. Washington has encouraged Indonesia's de facto leadership of Southeast Asia's regional bloc as it strives for economic integration and copes with the rise of increasingly assertive China.

Indonesia has sought to main a strategic balance between the U.S. and China, and that's likely to continue under Widodo, although he's given few clues during the campaign about foreign policy, a field where he has scant experience. His first opportunity to meet Obama is likely to be at the East Asia Summit to be held in Myanmar in November. "
