No, don't get me wrong. I mean, Indonesia will be a neutral regional power (if you don't agree on this, but soon close to), to make East and Southeast Asia, especially the SCS more balanced. Even in the EU, different countries have different views on Russian sanctions, they all have their own deal with Russia, they don't want to lose it. We rejected many USA and Japanese attempt to make us side with them against China, and we also try not to be so close with China either. I understand Indonesia stance of being neutral. That is not necessarily bad.

We had modern state administration, rule of laws and powerful army. When western visitors came to our capital Hanoi in the 18 century, they were impressed by the buildings and roads. Best? In 60's and 70's? Lol, hardly. The south Viet navy had destroyer escorts which mainly designed to escort merchant ships, and destroyers built in 40's - 60's were not even like today's destroyers. The South Vietnamese Fregate ships were orignally plane tenders, which laters transferred to the Coast Guard before they were in service with the SVN, the SVN had no subs, had only a little number of Patrol boats. Your father served in the navy which consisted of ships that were not originally built as ships of the line.

The mighty Vietnamese navy wasn't even close to the Indonesian navy in the 60's and 70's.
