Indonesian air force indeed have a plan to add 3 fighter squadrons in the future aside from current negotiation on SU-35 to replace F-5, although the leading contender is F-16.

There is no leading contender but the Army chief favors SU 35 I read his statement. The F-16 and JF-17 are on table.

This is for new procurement. SU-35 is a done deal, we are only waiting for the contract signing.

U.S. officials said Indonesia asked for pricing for an additional 48 F-16 aircraft, a deal which could be worth $4.5 billion. But Indonesia played down any imminent purchase and suggested it was still evaluating how many more aircraft it needed.

Our immediate neighbors are: Australia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, and there's China in SCS. They have F-35, F-18, Gripen, F-16, F-15, Sukhoi, and China have a bunch of Gen 4+ & Gen 5 fighters.

Any comparison between F-16 and JF-17?

F-16 is at the end of its shell life, JF-17 just began and with block 3 soon to enter production with goodies such as an AESA radar, IRST etc this is only going to go upwards. Besides with Pakistan you can be rest assured that things will always be free of political strings unlike US.
