What's new

Indonesian president has decided to move the capital out of Java

.
Anies Baswedan supporter are many, including Yusuf Kalla and Ma'ruf Amin who is in Jokowi camp. Many Anies Baswedan supporter are also supporting Jokowi like many Muhammadiyah (including me) and many Nahdatul Ulama follower. I also voted for Jokowi since Jakarta Governor election up until latest Presidential election, you seems to be too naive to believe that all Anies Baswedan supporter (during Jakarta election) will all support Prabowo at Presidential election.

There are many consideration to pick a president, and since Jokowi is not showing any anti Islam sentiment and has a rational and good program, people who are even considered as pious Muslim are also voting for Jokowi. The condition is not like Anies versus Ahok who are so contrasting (in this chase you choose Ahok).

You sound like an anti Islam person by mocking Anies Baswedan. Look, any Indonesian leader who fight against Islam will (inshaAllah) fail just like Ahok and PSI. ... ...

Latest election is also showing that many Islamic province-province where many Islamic hard liner lives-like what Mahfud MD stated-which are almost in All Sumatra/South Kalimantan/ South Sulawesi/Gorontalo/NTB/ Banten/ West Java/etc are in majority still voting for Prabowo due to (some) Ulama and Islamic party support ... ...

===

You are totally 1000% WRONG.

#1) I absolutely support 3000% all PROGRESSIVE Muslim leaders such as
the HONORABLE Mr. HAMKA HAQ, and the HONORABLE Prof. Ika Rochdjatun SASTRAHIDAYAT, the HONORABLE Mr. Said Aqil SIRADJ, and many, many other Progressive Muslim leaders from NU.

#2) It is quite obvious that you and all your cronies
who has similar shallow and narrow minded * ZERO SUM ... thinking and beliefs on
Islamic interpretations ... are very ... DESTRUCTIVE and WRECKING towards
the long term nationwide economic progress and prosperity of NKRI
and all Muslim nations in general.

===

Your claim of PSI and AHOK are anti Muslim is absolutely EVIL and VENOMOUS
coming from some1 who is supposed to be well educated and highly knowledgeable,
and can easily read & understand English quite well.

===

Quietly in a very low profile way, ... AHOK using his own personal finance * has
already been sending thousands of ( MARBOTs / Mosque Cleaners ) to pilgrimage
in Mecca for the last 35 years.

Contrast this to the current Jakarta governor * ( FRAUDULENT and MALICIOUS
Anies Anus Omdo ), ... ...AHOK is not using any government funding at all.
AHOK is paying all thousands Marbots pilgrimage expenses using his own resources.

*** Before 2019, the current Jakarta governor * ( FRAUDULENT and MALICIOUS
Anies Anus Omdo ) have never registered any track records of sending
( MARBOTs / Mosque Cleaners ) to pilgrimage in Mecca.
Why is that ??

The above is the real TRUTH that has been true and
has passed the test of time with flying color for the last 35 years.

===

Thus, it is definitely an Absolute SAMARITAN Deeds from AHOK towards Muslims
on the bottom of society who are usually look down by the Muslims public in general.

And yet, here in PDF, you have the Backward and Venomous minded nerve to
write that PSI and AHOK are anti Muslim
.

PSI is strictly anti poligami, and under the age marriage maybe thats why he is trying to discredit PSI. Ahok and Jokowi itself is follower of Abdurrahman Wahid since very beginning and Ahok itself had Muslim godfather who fostered his political and business Carreer since his early days

Its been mulling since Soekarno era, new capital city in Indonesia history contain a lot of interest, political bargaining, economy consideration, security (either against human made threat and natural dissaster ). Jakarta since long is considered not too save to become a capital city for modern country, because in history Batavia was once had been swept away by mega tsunami during Cracatoa mega erruption not to mention jakarta is placed relatively near Sunda tectonic crust. My self not too fond with the fact, altough we are currently built large walls in North Jakarta, but it is better to placing a capital city in place far away from possible lethal danger.

Btw, Indonesia first capital city is actually in Yogyakarta during our independence war. So its not a new business for us actually

The official number will not be different from Quick Count result bro. You can actually find the update by typing Indonesia election on google, there will be official result appeared. Jokowi has won by having 56 percent vote over 44 percent vote taken by Prabowo.

Sukarno wanted to but he was busy with other things... Suharto liked to keep the whole control centralize in Java so the move was out of question.... Habibie, Gus Dur, and Megawati had too short time and were busy keep the nation together through crisis... SBY had the chance but lack the commitment. Many infra project were started in his time but then stalled, earning him the nickname "Mr. Mangkrak" a.k.a Mr. Stall.

What's different this time? JOKOWI.

He was laughed at and met with skepticism when he said he want to start massive infrastructure project across Indonesia, build more roads, bridges, dams, ports, airports, etc. 5 years of his first tenure and he did exactly that. Many of them are entirely new built from zero, not just an expansion of pre existing infra. He achieved what previous presidents couldn't in much shorter time.

Also any update on indonesia election? The official result take so long it seems.

Currently, 67% votes have been counted and Jokowi-Ma'ruf is leading with 56.24%.

The winner will officially be announced on May 22, 2019.

Jokowi scouts sites as Indonesia capital move gathers pace
Tassia Sipahutar - Bloomberg - Jakarta / Tue, May 7, 2019 / 04:48 pm

Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo arrived in Kalimantan island to survey possible locations for a new capital, fast-tracking a plan to move the administrative headquarters out of over-crowded and congested Jakarta.

Jokowi arrived at Balikpapan city in East Kalimantan on Tuesday and visited Bukit Soeharto, one of the locations being considered for the capital, his office said in a statement. The president is scheduled to visit Palangkaraya in Central Kalimantan province and review another possible site for the capital on Wednesday, it said.

Jokowi last week revived the decades-old plan to set up a new capital as the population in Jakarta and its suburbs continues to swell, having hit about 30 million people. Already one one of the world’s most congested cities, the coastal metropolis is also sinking by as much as 6 inches every year and is hit by frequent flooding.

While the selection of the site for a new administrative capital may be several months away, town planners and political analysts have been pointing to Palangkaraya, the capital of Central Kalimantan. The city of about 260,000, which is relatively free from natural disasters and located near the centre of the vast archipelago, has been mooted as an option for a new capital since the 1960s.

In a meeting with heads of state agencies on Monday, Jokowi said the government was serious about moving the capital by zeroing in on three alternatives. The area of the shortlisted sites ranged from 80,000 hectares to 300,000 hectares, he said.

Bukit Soeharto was among the locations under government’s consideration for the past year and a half, Jokowi said, adding its proximity to airports in Balikpapan and Samarinda and toll roads will be supportive.

“The most important thing is Indonesia as a big country wants to have an administrative center that is separated from economic, business, trading and services center,” Jokowi said. “We want to move ahead as an advanced country.”

Building a new capital may take between five to 10 years and cost as much as $33 billion, according to Planning Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro. With the capital moving out of Java island, Jokowi expects to ensure economic development of its far-flung regions. The government estimates the greater Jakarta area loses Rp 100 trillion ($7 billion) a year in lost productivity because of its endemic traffic congestion.

The government will devise a special arrangement to finance the setting up of the new capital to avoid any strain on the state budget, Jokowi said. Availability of clean drinking water will be a major consideration in picking the new site, the president said.

Kalimantan chosen as Indonesia’s new administrative HQ, says govt minister
Wednesday, 30/07/2019

Indonesia President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has decided to move his country’s capital city away from Jakarta to Kalimantan, the Indonesian portion of the island of Borneo.

The Jakarta Post reported on Tuesday (July 30) that Mr Widodo is planning to set up the country’s administrative headquarters in the resource-rich region.

In the report, National Development Planning Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro was quoted as saying to kompas.com that the new capital “will be in Kalimantan” and that “the province will be announced later”.

Mr Widodo had earlier toured provinces in Kalimantan to survey possible locations for a new capital.

The Jakarta Post stated that Mr Widodo’s administration aims to form a centre of government — similar to Washington, DC in the United States — in a new city, leaving Jakarta as the business, trade and financial hub similar to New York.

WHY THE MOVE

After the presidential election earlier in April, Mr Widodo said that the government would push ahead with the plan to relocate the capital city outside Java, because of the need to address overpopulation on the country’s most populous island and to ensure more equitable development.

Jakarta is home to more than 10 million people, but around three times as many people live in the surrounding towns, adding to the area's severe congestion.

At the time, Mr Brodjonegoro put the annual economic loss due to traffic congestion in Jakarta at 100 trillion rupiah (S$9.65 billion).

The low-lying capital is also prone to flooding and is sinking due to over-extraction of groundwater.

Experts said that the northern part of the city has sunk 2.5m in the last 10 years and the city will go underwater by 2050.

THREE SITES

The issue of capital relocation has been a recurring theme during Mr Widodo’s tenure.

It was talked about in 2015 before the idea quickly dissipated. Then the president revived the issue with renewed vigour in 2017 after visiting Palangkaraya, one of the sites on Indonesian Borneo.

Mr Widodo had inspected three possible sites on Indonesian Borneo: Bukit Soeharto in East Kalimantan, Bukit Nyuling in Central Kalimantan, and the Triangle Area in Palangkaraya, also in Central Kalimantan, which was specifically constructed in the late 1950s by President Sukarno to serve as a new capital city.

Of the three sites, two were found to be strategically located and less prone to natural disasters.

Bukit Soeharto, a 61,580ha forest located in two regencies — Panajam Paser Utara and Kutai Kertanegara — is considered suitable for a new capital because it is strategically located near the midpoint of the toll road connecting Samarinda and Balikpapan, the two largest cities in Kalimantan, both of which also have airports.

The Triangle Area is located between Palangkaraya, Katingan regency and Gunung Mas regency, where a 300,000ha plot of land is available for development, and the area is known to be relatively free from natural disaster risks.

Mr Brodjonegoro told the Jakarta Post earlier this year that the location for the new capital city would be announced by the end of the year.

In the first phase, the new capital city is planned to accommodate 1.5 million residents, which include around 200,000 state officials as well as 25,000 police and military personnel.

The government would need roughly US$33 billion (S$45.2 billion) to build the new capital.

It’s official! President Joko Widodo names North Penajam Paser and Kutai Kartanegara as sites for Indonesia’s next capital city
By Coconuts Jakarta Aug 26, 2019 | 2:01pm

There you have it. In a few years, Jakarta will relinquish its title as Indonesia’s capital city to a new location in East Kalimantan province.

President Joko Widodo just made a national address this afternoon from the State Palace, ending months of speculation regarding the new location of the country’s capital.

The most ideal location for the new capital is partly in North Penajam Paser regency and partly in Kutai Kartanegara regency,” Jokowi said in his address at the State Palace, flanked by his Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, East Kalimantan Governor Isran Noor, as well as cabinet ministers.

The two regencies intersect in the mid-point between Balikpapan and Samarinda, the two biggest cities in East Kalimantan, with the latter being the province’s capital. Jokowi said the new site’s proximity to the two cities was a major factor in the government’s decision, as it could take advantage of their existing infrastructure such as airports.

Jokowi said the development is expected to cost up to IDR477 trillion (US$36.6 billion), 19% of which will be covered by the State Budget while the remainder will be fronted by a combination of investments from private entities and state-owned enterprises.

Jokowi said as soon as the function of the capital is transferred to the new site, the government will still continue to develop Jakarta as an economic and business hub for Indonesia and the world.

Minister of Agriculture and Land Planning Sofyan Djalil said the government will enforce a land value freeze at the new capital city site to prevent land speculation in the area.

Previously, President Joko Widodo’s said he planned to place the new capital somewhere in Kalimantan (which is comprised of the Indonesian portion of Borneo Island) and made a formal request to Parliament last week. Sofyan Djalil then further narrowed down the new capital’s potential location by specifying that it would be located in the province of East Kalimantan.

Sofyan said that an area of 3,000 hectares would be prepared for the first phase of the new capital’s development, including essential government and legislative buildings. He said the city would eventually cover a total area of around 200,000-300,000 hectares.

For comparison, the city of Jakarta covers just under 70,000 hectares while the Greater Jakarta Area, which includes major satellite cities Tangerang, Bekasi, Depok, and Bogor, covers over 400,000 hectares.

Also last week, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono, released his ministry’s proposed design ideas for the new capital city, which include abundant green spaces and parks.

The image seen above illustrates PUPR’s proposed design for a monument to the country’s state ideology of Pancasila, which would be an obelisk similar to the National Monument in Jakarta, surrounded by a pentagon representing the five precepts of Pancasila.

Minister of National Development Planning Bambang Brodjonegoro previously said that another consideration for placing the new capital in Borneo were studies that showed it was unlikely to be struck by a major earthquake.

According to the government’s ambitious proposed timetable, construction on the new capital will begin in 2021 and the transfer of functions will take place from 2023-2024.

In order to transfer government and legislative functions to the new capital, officials estimate that around one million civil servants will also need to make the move from Jakarta.

The Indonesian government has long discussed the possibility of moving the nation’s capital to another city in the archipelago, which could potentially help solve many of Jakarta’s most pressing urban problems (traffic, pollution, overpopulation, etc) as well as lead to more balanced economic development for the country if the seat of power was moved outside of Java.

The idea to relocate the capital was first proposed by the country’s founding father, President Soekarno, who suggested that the central government’s base of operations be moved to Palangkaraya in Central Kalimantan in 1957. President Jokowi’s government is the latest to revive the idea, first tentatively announcing relocation plans in 2017 and then moving forward with them aggressively after the incumbent sealed his second term by winning April’s presidential election.
