Although this is part of the navy short-term plan, hopefully in next five years our MoD able to determine about the successor, because this ships is one of the priorities that need immediate replacement..

peremajaan armada Van Speijk itu maksudnya penggantian kapal, bukan overhaul dan modernization

Do you know what the total cost was to upgrade it to use the Yakhont? (i.e. the total cost including system integration with the radars, cms, the VLS, etc.)

Any update pics of the current Sigma frigates under construction?

Thanks.

Beside using Yakhon missile, the rest of Indonesian Van Speijk Class anti ship missile has been upgraded into C-802 SSM (China).

I think Indonesia should consider to import new stealth FFG like 054A from China, just we r offering new designed stealth FFG with 32x VLS units to international weapon market.

I see, thanks for the correction ma'am.. It seems there's misread here. The article just mentioned about the plan to accelerate the rejuvenation of the Van Speijk class frigate that was too old to be operated. So I think this is a good news for the navy, moreover after there were approval from the parliament regarding to the incrased budget to support this program. So the decision now is in the government hands..

Unfortunately, it seems no one can predict the total cost of the installation of these missile systems, even the information about the exact numbers were bought is undisclosed..
In several articles where I read it just mentioned the purchase of this Yakhont missile at US$.1,2 million each, that's all. So I think we'll never get clear informations about the upgrade cost..

Yes, this 054A frigate is a great platform. With the ability to carry 32x VLS cells HQ-16 SAM system, I think it's will be great to serve as the backbone of our naval air defence assets, which currently we are lacks in such capabilities..
Sure I hope, with the increasing economic cooperation and military relations between the Two countries will also affect to the increased of weapons procurement from China. And maybe this 054A frigate will gonna be into our navy inventory as a replacement of our Van Speijk fleet, who knows..

While indonesia has good effort of modernization in the naval forces, why there is an extreme spends on such an old ships ? I even confront that Turkey modernized G-class AAW frigates ,but there wasnt any class to replace till 2020s , also it is still about 30 years old which is a limit by NATO for operated ships.

They are almost 50 years old , it doesnt matter what you install on those ships ,overhauling a system after 30 years isnt cost effective ,if there is a modernization projected for this class, how many years it is supposed to be in operation (Think a basic Cost/year assumption) ? The cost of overhauling during years after 30-35 , or a massive project to modernize them with modern equipment will cost almost as a new system.

Very bulky design from 60s , Not effective cannon, Excess ratio of hull weight/equipment , Large RCS ,Less survivability.

It is more logical to basically build/ purchase new platforms, even a corvette sized ship can replace these old ships . They should have been decommissioned when there is need to change engines ,Sorry but who really thought to modernize them in this way isnt a professional anyway . It is mostly to sustain production for the company's economical wheel.

Exactly, it's a good point and very well explanation, Sir..
Sure, no matter how great the upgrade package that crammed into it still it was an old ship, and it's not comparable with value of the systems and weaponry that she's carried. And remember this is a five decades old ship, which was supposed only to be found in the museums or may already rest in peace at the bottom of the sea..

Well, actually for now on there's no intention from our navy to upgrading again those ships, because in the article above (unfortunately its in Bahasa) does not mentioning about that's plan at all., There's only mentioned that our navy chief of staff had planed to accelerate the renewal program of the Van Speijk fleet. And they also realize those ships was already too old to serve in the navy, which is why they proposed additional budget to implementing the program that eventually has getting approval from the parliament, which I hope in next five years there has been a definite decision about the successor..

As far as i knew, the 054A-class FFG cost 0.4 billion USD for PLAN, a cheap & effective frigate now already built 22x, building continue ... 052C/D DDG just need 0.8~1.0 billion USD.

Do you mean that Type-054A frigate is only cost US$.400 million with all the package included, Sir??

It’s the ship price for PLAN,not including missiles. Truth is ... 054A FFG is not a expensive warship built in China, 22x 054A already finished. Next stealth frigate, China plan for 054B with small AESA radar on shipbridge. Ship hull + engine + VLS + CIWS + Radar system + Missiles all made in China, now 054A-class export is not a problem for China =)

I think jokowi already choose to build our own war ship on our own ship yard, so it's impossible for ship from china to be purchased by the navy, we are concentrating on PKR 105, who knows tommorow will be a PKR 125 or even PKR 140 :)

If it empty, ill rather choose iver huidfelt of royal danish navy design over chinese 054A/B

Yes, however, the price of 400 mil for such a 4000 tons ship with kind of capabilities like type-054A frigate is still an efective cost to me. So, let's hope that in the future there's an agreement which can benefit both countries..

Anyway, that's 22 units for a single class ship is a masive numbers you have being build. Your country's shipbuilding capability is awesome !!!
