Migrant worker Ruyati binti Sapubi, 54, was executed after she was convicted of murdering her Saudi employer, Khairiya bint Hamid Mijlid, with a meat cleaver.

The maid carried out the killing after she was denied permission to leave the kingdom and return to her family in Indonesia, according to officials in Jakarta.

"The Indonesian government has decided to impose a moratorium on sending workers to Saudi Arabia," labour minister Muhaimin Iskandar was quoted by state news agency Antara as saying.

In a second case, a court in the Saudi capital Riyadh had sentenced Indonesian maid Darsem to death for murdering her Yemeni employer in December 2007 in what she called an act of self-defence as the employer had tried to rape her.

The women's cases are the latest in a string of incidents involving Indonesian menial labourers in the Middle East. This week authorities in Saudi Arabia discovered a Sri Lankan maid who had been kept against her will without pay for nearly 14 years by her local employers.

I see none other than what is found everywhere in the world. The only reason why this comes to light is because there are many more migrants in the GCC and KSA than practically everywhere else on the planet in terms of percentages. 99% of all migrants don't face such problems at all.

Ask your compatriots on PDF that live in KSA for a start. The same 50-100 incidents are recycled again and again. Like in this "news" that is 4 years old.

And for all the crying there are 1 million Indonesians in KSA as of today and several hundred thousands of Saudi Arabian nationals of Indonesian origin.

Slavery is much more widespread in South Asia and South East Asia than anywhere in the Arab world too.

China is the biggest trading partner of the GCC and many Chinese live in our lands and do business and vice versa. Arabs have nothing but praise and admiration for China's developments in the past decades and we see many similarities between your position after your "century of struggle" to what we see in parts of the Arab world now. Similarly (in the context of the Arab world at least) both of our people inhabit a huge and populous landmass, have a very ancient history, culture etc. and also have been exploited by outsiders. So there are actually quite a few similarities. China is one country though while the Arab world is not united anymore so it makes our job much harder in this sense. So no direct comparison.

I removed my China part of the message. Linking to that genocide webpage. Indeed he seems to be an Malay but whatever he is there is no need to step down to his level. I have always had very friendly ties with Chinese members on PDF and I am a fan of China but I reply to insults regardless of who writes them as people know on PDF. Setting KSA aside, it's good that Indonesia is looking out for their migrant workers.

I had read that Singapore hires maids from many SE Asian countries, but Filipino maids get better pay and working conditions than Indonesian maids for the same work, because Philippine government negotiated better agreement with Singapore government.

It's fine my brother, I know you are not anti-China, you were just responding to provocation.

And of course, I also believe that China and Saudi will have a very big part to play in a new multipolar world, being two of the biggest surplus nations in the world, and being in the very enviable position of having large amounts of capital to invest in global markets.

Clearly some people (and vested interests) are unhappy about this, but that should not bother us. If anything, it's a sign we are moving in the right direction.
