Indonesia executes drug convicts, sparks anger from Australia, Brazil

Hey, it's you that need this education, not me. Haha, why should i bothered if you don't want to join. This topic is relevant, since it's full of information and related news about Indonesian fishery industry and it's new policy and it's impact around regional (SEA) region.

Please, don't feel intimidated by the Title. It's not our false, since it's not Indonesian member who create this Topic. We just continue on with related matter. :-)

That's what I said. It is you who previously said I needed to be educated.

We were talking about slavery in the fishing industry, about Indonesian victims, and how the Indonesian govt dealt with it in the past and what your current govt is doing about Indonesian slavery victims in foreign fishing boats. So I asked for you to open a new thread on that topic to educate me. But you said you don't want to.

I don't mind discussing it in the "Indonesia blowing up Viet boats" thread, but that is off topic and I always get warned for simple offtopic posts.

So I'm waiting for you to open a new thread on that Indonesian fishing slavery topic. You're the one who said I need to be educated. So I'll wait enthusiastically for you to open that thread and educate me. Don't be scared, I just want to learn more about your country.

I did say "we need a little education here", and since you feel you need to be educated, it's all good then.

A little education is always free, but you want to dig more, so you have to give more effort, isn't that right? I already told you that i rarely open up new Topic, so i asked you to join existing Topic, named "Indonesian Navy Blow up Vietnamese illegal fishing Boats". This is the only existing Topic that have relation with your question, so your discussion will not off-topic, except if you try to derail too much.

Slavery in fishery industry is pretty much relevant with this topic, since we already provide wide range of information and insight about this issue there.

You can see how Indonesian Government dealing with thai, cambodia, viet, and myanmar issue realated to our new fishery policy, including slavery. You just need to read and ask.

But why wait... You don't have to wait, just jump to the Topic, and ask nicely to me or other Indonesian members about related issue there. Please don't feel intimidated by the title. Nobody will scold and scream at you if you fail, since you are only trying to learn a new thing right?

Now, off you go. :-)

. .
In India we should also adopt a system to deter drug smuggling which has caused havoc in Punjab.

.
i fully support your desire to implement this in india. Bring also the firing squad.

.
If Australia care so much about their citizen, they ought to catch them before they boarded the plane to Indonesia.

.
How do i know, hmm... because they said so. The very same like when you said about you sitting in your home in the suburb of Blacktown NSW Australia, watching Channel 7 News about an hour ago. I don't have any interest or reason to object or denied what you claim.

Did i said Media headline? I said Australian, meaning some Australian citizen running amok on internet news regarding this publication and posting hysterical comments. Thousand of comments.

Why so sensitive, If you are not part of this social media outcry, then good for you. :coffee:

That's why i laugh. It's funny to see small section of Australian society flooding the comment section of related news with their ranting and rambling. Laugh is healty, don't you think?

First, you use a single news article and the comment section which may or may not represent the whole Australian Social Media Activities, and claim that Australian jump up and down cowering about the decision Indonesia Make.

And then there are no way you can know those who posted or ran amok were indeed Australian. And you are meaning to tell me this is how A LOT OF (your words, not mine) general Australian Feel??

I can tell you this, if A LOT OF normal bloke want to blame the Indonesian Government for the execution, the media would already air stuff that blame the Indonesian Government already, instead of all these Fact Finding program, almost all evolving how AFP let the ball slip.

This is the ABC News network

Just In - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

In the last 20 News Entry, only 3 is about the Bali 9 and 2 is about abolishion of death penality in general and 1 is about how the duo spend their last hour.

2 Article are about the AFP
1 Article about the Indonesia Defending the Decision
1 Article about the British Granma still in death roll in Indonesia
1 Article about how Australian Fury about the decision of execution
1 Article about how the Execution is carry out.

So you tell me what Australian is keen on right now

If Australia care so much about their citizen, they ought to catch them before they boarded the plane to Indonesia.

No they can't, because then there are no reason to hold them or forbid them to travel.

The police cannot arrest/detain someone before they commit any crime. The Bali 9 have no outstanding warrant against them and were not put on a no fly list or have their passport confiscated. There are no ground for the AFP to hold or detain them. The AFP should however, not tell the Indonesian authority of this Bali 9 ring and arrest them WHEN they set foot in Australia from Indonesia, then they would have the drug as evidence

That is why most Aussie Pissed off at this moment, not some drango Indonesia Government executing our citizens.

Err... no. Certainly not a single news. Numerous, if you try to check some sources which i mention, you will clearly see. It's a well known sentiment from some segment of Australian society in social media that already built up for weeks and blowing up out of proportion today, with the fact that we continue the execution despite international plea and rejection.

Like i said, it is good that you are not become one of this victim of social media outcry. Congratulation.

you do know I have been quite active on searching on those news a few weeks now, the only news I came up with trying to say the Australian Government should do something is some dude saying We should executing all Indonesian Prisoner who are in Australian jail for Drug or serious offence.

You won't see me as one of the Australian "Outcry" about Indonesian Executing prisoner as there are NO MOB exist that decry those.

Sure we are not pleased with Indonesia executing our citizen, but would you be pleased if we start executing Indonesian for drug offence and say yeah, that is a good clause??

But to be in a level like you said? No, I never heard of them, and I have been talking to REAL Australian about it the whole day.

LOL just as I thought, talk big but too scared to back it up.

I already gave you a legitimate reason why I won't post off topic in that thread. Some members here want me banned and constantly report me for every little offtopic posts, etc.

And you think me opening a thread like "Indonesian slaves in foreign fishing industry" will not get locked and get me warned/banned? One of your compatriot already told me to "**** off" and mind my own business lol.

You want to bait me in getting reported and banned? lol

You being an Indonesian won't have any problem opening such sensitive topics about your own country. Opening a new thread only takes a few clicks and keystrokes. Man don't use that silly excuse that you rarely open threads lol... I've seen you spending more time and effort searching and posting news source, etc.

So just be a man and open up that thread so we can discuss. You were the one that said I needed to be educated. This is my last post here and my last request: open that thread on "Indonesian slaves in foreign fishing industry" so you can "educate" me about it. You refusing to opening it means that you are too scared, simple as that. No need for those other nonsense excuses lol.

So I'll wait for your thread. And remember: Everyone can talk big, but dont be scared when someone ask you to back it up. :-)

jhungary is living in a "different" Australia. I disagree with him.

As an Aussie living in Melbourne, I can confirm that this is indeed big news here.

Many people held vigils last night for Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran.

Most of my office colleagues were p*ssed off by the action of the Indonesian government.

Yes, these two young men committed a crime, i.e smuggling drugs. We don't have a problem with them being punished, in fact they should be punished. But we don't think that they deserved to die.

In the past ten years, they have rehabilitated themselves. They were doing good things in the Bali jails. One became a minister helping others and the other became a painter. They taught English language and life skills to fellow Indonesian prisoners. All news point to them doing good community services in the jails.

So why kill them? Letting them live is of more benefit to Indonesia.

An Australian travel agency has cancelled all Indonesian tours at the loss of about 15% of its revenue.

I already gave you a legitimate reason why I won't create new topic. It's you that want to be educated. We will educate you there. I promise. :-)

Just jump in to the discussion, and ask nicely. Don't be shy, don't be afraid. There's no one that will bite you there.
Why so scared. It's not in my interest to put bait or anything like that. Why so judgemental. And why should we try to get you banned. Are you trying to troll there? Troll do get banned.

Why should i bother, it's for your own well being, for your own education, not me. You should feel antusiastic that we will provide you with free education and enlightening discussion that you seek.

So just be a man and join us in "Indonesian Navy Blown Up Vietnamese Illegal Fishing Boats" so we can discuss. You were the one that feel enthusiastic to be educated. A polandball comic about the kerfuffle. Also this Filipino "literally" dodged a bullet here

Philippine press caught out by last-minute execution reprieve for Mary Jane Veloso
News of the execution being cancelled by the Indonesian president, Joko Widodo, came too late for most Filipino newspapers’ final print editions

Several Philippine newspapers were caught out Wednesday by the last-minute execution reprieve for Mary Jane Veloso, running front-page headlines bidding her farewell and accusing the government of failing to save her.

“Death came before dawn” read the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s dramatic headline, above a large photograph of Veloso, 30, whose plight has captivated the nation.

Manila’s best-selling Filipino-language tabloid, Abante, ran a black-themed front page together with a picture of Veloso, head bowed, and a headline in capitals that translates as: “Farewell, Mary Jane”.

Indonesia defied global anger to execute eight drug smugglers by firing squad early on Wednesday, but spared Veloso at the 11th hour in a decision her ecstatic family welcomed as a “miracle”.

Veloso had always claimed an international trafficking gang tricked her into bringing 2.6kg (5.7 pounds) of heroin to Indonesia from Malaysia five years ago as she chased a nonexistent job as a domestic worker.

The Indonesian president, Joko Widodo, granted the reprieve after Cristina Sergio, suspected of recruiting Veloso, turned herself in to authorities in the Philippines.

However, the news of the cancelled midnight execution came too late for most Filipino newspapers rushing to put out their final print editions.

“PNOY is to blame” the tabloid Standard’s headline read, referring to criticism over the supposed “negligence” of the government of Benigno Aquino, using media shorthand for his nickname, president Noynoy.

“All hopes fade” was the Manila Times’ headline, and the Manila Bulletin reflected the drama across three editions with the evolving headlines “We’re hoping for a miracle”, “No delay in execution” and, finally, “Veloso granted reprieve”.

The erroneous print-edition headlines swiftly became fodder for ridicule; the online news site Coconuts Media ran an item chiding the media for “killing” Veloso.

One Facebook user posted a composite picture of the front page snafu together with one of the US president-elect Harry Truman holding a copy of the famous Chicago Tribune headline “Dewey defeats Truman”.

“Proof that journalism hasn’t really changed much in the past six decades,” the caption read.

The last-minute reprieve sparked an outpouring of euphoria and disbelief on Wednesday, with crowds of supporters weeping with joy and her children crying, “Mama will live!”

Mary Jane Veloso’s family said its prayers had been answered after it emerged that the 30-year-old single mother was not among a group of foreign drug convicts sent to the firing squad shortly after midnight.

“Miracles do come true,” Veloso’s mother, Celia, told Manila radio from Indonesia.

Protesters who had been keeping vigil outside the Indonesian embassy in Manila wept with joy, hugged each other and raised clenched fists in the air.

Veloso’s sons, aged six and 12, who went to Indonesia last week to say goodbye to their mother, were overjoyed and yelled: “Yes, yes! Mama will live!” their grandmother said.

On Tuesday the Philippines president, Benigno Aquino, also offered Veloso as a witness against drug rings operating in Indonesia.

Aquino’s spokesman, Herminio Coloma, described Veloso as a “victim”, and said the whole nation was grateful to Indonesia and thanking God that her life had been spared.

The Philippines is a deeply Catholic country and a priest, Father Harold Toledano, who had been counselling the Veloso family, said Veloso never lost hope that she would be saved.

“It’s like a resurrection for us. She is alive. It is like an experience of knowing someone has died and then, just risen,” Toledano said in Cilacap, where Veloso’s family kept vigil.

“It’s too good to be true. It’s a miracle. It’s amazing.”

Veloso’s Filipino lawyer, Edre Olalia, said the Veloso family in Cilacap jumped and shouted for joy when they were informed of the reprieve.

In Veloso’s hometown of Cabanatuan city, around two hours’ drive north of Manila, relatives were also relieved.

“This is nothing short of a miracle. We are overjoyed. Praise God,” Veloso’s aunt, Imelda Magday, told local television.

“I felt this surge of energy when I heard the news. I thank the Lord. Mary Jane, don’t worry, we will see each other soon,” Veloso’s grandmother, Milagros Fiesta, said in a separate television interview.

On Tuesday, Sergio, 47, turned herself in to police in Cabanatuan, claiming she had been receiving death threats because of the Veloso family’s allegations, provincial police chief Superintendent Rey de la Cruz said.

Sergio had no previous criminal record and was not under arrest, he said.

Organised crime investigators have filed a human trafficking and fraud complaint against her and the justice department is expected to decide soon whether charges will be filed in court.

The foreign affairs secretary, Albert del Rosario, said the government would “pursue full investigation of those accountable for the victimisation of Mary Jane”.

Thank you for your confirmation. I personally can understand that there will be outcry by some section of the Australian society. But it's all back to our perspective to address this issue. As Australian, you have yours, and it's legitimate since it's in line with your values and norm and all that.

As from indonesian perspective, it's all about law inforcement. About justice value that we believe. Bali nine duo have rehabilitated themselves, then good. But i have to stated, that the court had sentenced them to death, not to imprisonment, that they are expected to rehabilitated.

Maybe it sound boring and repetitive for you, but our national narcotic agency has release data that point out around 30-50 drugs addict died everyday in this country. That is around 13.000-18.000 victims claimed every year. It's a huge number. Massive.

Moreover, around 4Million indonesian are need to rehabilitated, with around 1 million already hopeless and waitng for their final day. It's emergency action to save indonesian citizen and generation from this evil drugs.

It's Indonesian national interest vs Australian judicial value. You want to save yours?
We want to save ours. Millions of them.
