Indonesia is considering the South Korean T-50 Golden Eagle trainer jet as the potential option to replace the air force's Hawk mk53 planes, which will be decommissioned in 2011.

Air Force commander Marshall Imam Syafaat told the Xinhua News Agency that the government was considering the T-50, the Yakovlev Yak 130 and Czechoslovakia's Aero L159 Alca.

Indonesia is considering the T-50 based on the planned joint production of fighter jets with South Korea that will come into force in 2012.

The T-50 Golden Eagle has more superior options compared with the L159, according to Syafaat.

South Korea's fourth-generation plane, T-50 Golden Eagle will be fitted with more sophisticated instruments that are not found in the Czech planes.

The Indonesian Air Force currently operates 38 Hawk mk53 two-seater trainer / light attack jets.

India should also consider about importing this plane :D

I think these planes would be cheaper than British Hawks!

Probably, but now its too late. We already have a mini-zoo in IAF and as if that was not enough, IN is also going for a tender process now despite choosing MiG-29Ks. They could simply ask Russians to modify the MiG-35 for Navy operations wit AESA and arrestor hook and stronger fuselage and order another 30 rather than going for a multi-vendor tender process.

So I don't think we should think of it now that Hawks are here. ALthough this could have really increased ties between us and South Korea, I guess that Lee Myung Bak's January visit did the trick there.

IMHO Mig-35 is a modified Mig-29 (OVT varient)

Besides, on-topic I think that Indonesians have smartly committed well on their program with South Koreans. They are already partners with S Koreans on their new indigenous fighter programme.

. .
Check this out guys.. It's the second partnership Indonesia is having with S. Korea.

The KF-X programme
