India's vanishing Communists

main election issues were Scams of UPA government, ice cream parlor case, price rise and there was no anti incumbency factor also...Clean image of V.S. will also help LDF...wait till may 16th

It may be true that the issues like scams in UPA and UDF will affect the results. But you should also consider the fact that LDF's lottery scam, SNC Lavalin case, allegations of corruption against CM’s son etc..will also affect the poll results. And after all 'this is kerala'. Where people are more aware of the 'drama' in politics. And do you think that people will again bring that mimic artist V S back to power? Never mate never...! In 2006 people had faith in V.S, but after getting the chair he totally went wrong in many things including developmental projects. Actually people are fed up with that comic character. People may gather in good number for his speeches, do u know why? just to watch is comedy and mimic actions.. We definitely need a break mate...!

I do not know much about Kerala, but problem of CPI (M) in WB is linked with administrative inefficiency and some unique problems in Bengal. It has nothig to do with any political ideology. (I wonder how many of the CPI(M) leaders themselve understand Marxism) WB is a small state with limited resources. Most of the population is mainly dependent on agriculture. The partition had affected the state very much. So was the Bangladesh war. It is believed ten million people migrated to WB from Bangladesh during and after the war. The process is still continuing. Much more came from neighbouring states of Bihar and UP (so great the number is that Bengalees are now minorities in Kolkata). Now WB is fourth in population and first in population density. Naturally it is a difficult task even for best of the government to cope with it. The major industries like Jute is dying , there is hardly any scope to add employment opportunity in agriculture- the problem of unempolyment looks threatening. It has too many people and too less resources. Add with that a central government which is most of the time political opponent of ruling left in Bengal. (having an unsympathetic government is a big hinderance, atleast my personal experience says so) The left government successfully carried on land reforms (probably it has best record in the country). Naturally it had very strong support base among rural population, atleast in previous generation. But at present they had to try for industrialisation desperately and they tried it. But that misfired for them. Before the controversies of Singure and Nandigram- prospect political career of Mamata Banerjee was just fading away with immense popularity of Budhdhadev Bhatgtachariya. Mamata manged only one seat (that of her) in Loksabha election and around thirty in State Assembly. But Singur-Nandigram gave her new life.
WB government failed to make people understand how urgent industrilaisation is for Bengal.

People who criticise the lefts for their obsolete ideology also agrees-

1) Names of top level CPI (M) leaders are not found in any major scams.

2) they opposed the shameless campaighn of MPs for hike of their salaries etc

3)They had the mindset to deny the offer to join in central government several times due to ideological reasons when most of the political parties would bergain their best for some ministrial posts.

What I believe people out side bengal has a negative thinking for leftists in Bengal. It is true administrative failure is a major concern for Bengal populatin now, but many cases indian media quite unjustly exaggerate the issues against the lefts. Things like 'espionage for China' etc are bogus and generally ill-educated people believe in such political propaganda. But people in Bengal never failed to support them. Arrival of Buddha after inefficient Jyoti Basu gave them a new hope. But things went otherway.

My prediction is TMC is coming in power this time (the alliance with congress will combine the anti-CPI-M votes in their favour). But solving problems in WB is beyond their capability. So CPI-M will be back in power within five years. Now they should re-organise thesemlves, rethink their policies so that they can promise a better government next time....

@Sab A very accurate analysis , but hasn't the Mahajot idea been tried once before with disastrous results for the allies ? in the Lok sabha elections for instance - when the CPM got those 60 votes ?

The CPM cadre system is still very robust , the way they have inculcated themselves into the minds of the poor in the countryside , also I heard they have a disciplined way of getting their men in almost every elected body - Panchayats , municipalities ,

Their youth wing in district colleges ie DYFI , etc is still intact.

I know that a mass hype has been created around Mamata , with high profile cases in Singur and Nandigram but what about the rest ...?

Malda and Murshidabad are traditional Congress bastions , what about Purulia , Midnapore , Cooch Behar , North 24 Parganas etc ?

.
In kerala, both parties, congress and communists have equal chances of winning. But i hope congress wins this time.

I don't hate the communist party though, These guys did a fat load of good back in the day. Oh, by the way?.....i gave my vote for the communists. Go figure.

. .
The biggest problem in CPI(M) is that the top leaders never face people's mandate. Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat or Sitaram Yehchuri never competed in any election. Still they command those who appeard in election and proved their credibility among people. Top leaders are still pre-occupied with old policy of- " Imperealism dur hoto....America Murdabad etc..." . Sticking with anything ( Be it Marxism or Talibanism) closing all windows is not suitable in modern age. So it is time, leaders from West bengal should take the command of the party from Karat and co. There are lot of disputes among the heads of the party regarding liberal policies (capitalist?) of Buddha. Though their discipline never allowed to come this things in public, but there is conflict between Budda camp and karat camp. Hope Budda will win in this contest.

The only thing is in favour of TMC in WB is the anti-incumbancy factor. Young generation had not seen the poverty in rural bengal and famine in pre-land reform era, and propably they have not carefully analysed Mamata banerjee's activities. Several news papers and news channel are constantly propagating for Mamata, sometimes quite shamelessly. However the honest image of Mamata has been strained this time, Because-

1) her silence about so many scams in UPA.

2) huge spending during election in WB (nobody will trust you if you put on a rubber sandal but travell in Helicopter)

3) establishment of three committees in railway and put intellectuals of her camp in these committees (27 of 28 members in 3 committees are from Bengal and pro-Mamata) and arranging huge compensation package for them. (I do not know why nobody is protesting against this nepotism)

4)her habit of lying without even thinking. She blames CPI(M) as the alley of the Maoists forgetting she took help from them everywhere- Singur-Nandigram-Lalgarh...She blames BJP to alley with CPI (M) to defeat her forgetting even the cows and goats would laugh hearing this.

5) many lower level leaders and activists kicked out from CPI(M) for corruption or other charges are now in her camp becoming a source of her strength. People are not unaware of it.

So the election is going to be a hard battle this time.

The Indian and Chinese communist parties should cooperate to bring about true freedom in India. Some mistakes of the Communist Party of India seem to be very basic ones we also made 60 years ago. They could learn from our example.

 India and Chinese people who believe in democracy should cooperate to bring people's rule in China that is a govt elected by people's vote not some dictatorship. People's representatives elected by general election should rule a country not some one party ruled dictatorship.

.
Not only WB and Kerala all sorts of communism will be kicked out of India. Their funny idea of ruling by so called communism and more bizarre ideals are becoming extinct in 21st century.

It's ironical that a communist man expresses knowledge of "true" freedom. I'm loving it.

Kerala CM demands ban on endosulfan - India News - IBNLive

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanadan went on a day long fast on Monday for the banning of the controversial pesticide Endosulfan - which has been blamed for a large number of deaths and genetic deformities in Kazargode, Kerala. Several prominent citizens, activists and ministers too pledged their support.
V S Achuthanandan said, "The Prime Minister and the Centre is still saying that only if all the states in India seeks for a ban it will be implemented. That is a cruel and wrong approach and we are reiterating here that it should be corrected. We urge the PM to do so. We are here to support the stand taken by so many countries against Endosulfan in the Stockholm Convention."
The CPM led protests were backed by the BJP but the Congress chose to stay away. It accused the CM of inaction in the past 5 years and for politicising the issue now. Meanwhile senior Congress leaders from the state met PM Manmohan Singh in New Delhi to seek the ban of Endosulfan.
"The government of India has kept on it on hold. We won't allow the use of Endosulfan in the particular state," said Sharad Pawar.

Already the pesticide has been banned in the EU and several other countries, while the Stockholm Convention is looking at a global ban. But India still remains the largest user of Endosulfan in the world - and the centre, not satisfied with several studies on its harmful effects - has commissioned yet another. If and when the ban comes, will it be too little too late?
