India's limb-lengthening industry is booming — and completely unregulated

The Caucasians way is wrong too and two wrongs don't make a right., but it is easy to point fingers. It is a given that we like to act differently and we're not who we're pretending to be.

No one is wrong, people should have the freedom to decide for themselves.

If enlarging your breasts is ethical, if enlarging your butt is ethical, if enlarging your eyes is ethical, if straightening your nose is ethical, then whats wrong with enlarging your limbs. If its medically safe and possible, then why should the society get to decide for an individual whether its ethical or not?

If a person is insecure about something and has the means, s/he should have the freedom to do something about it.

Its not just India or the sub continent, China is the same.

Like India, China suffers from this fad as well. Its just that, more and more people are now starting to have disposable incomes, which some tend to spend on cosmetic improvements. They are a tiny minuscule percentage though, and again I don't think it has anything to do with trying to be white. Its more to do with standing out from the crowd.

I mean do you ever see articles saying that Caucasians are addicted to tanning salons and products, or people who dye their hair dark, are doing so because they are trying to be more like Indian or Pakistani or Middle Eastern? You ll never ever see such an article, but the moment a brown person tries to lighten his skin tone, or dye his hair to a lighter color you ll have white people saying, look we are so great that this brown person is trying to become white. Its subtle racism, thats what it is.

The people from the sub continent using skin whitening creams are doing so to be more appealing to other Indians...not Caucasians. It's not like these people are trying to become mail order brides.
So the notion that they are "trying to emulate the Caucasians" is ridiculous..
Cosmetic surgery and its other applications are purely a personal thing..something an individual does to uplift his/herself. To each his own..if it helps them improve their lives and self confidence, so be it.
Of course there are some cases where it becomes psychological disorder where people are addicted to cosmetic surgery, but those cases are rare

You're still not getting it, are you? The society doesn't dictate someone to enlarge breasts, butt or any other limbs of the body. The individual does it because he/she feels that it is necessary for whatever reason. Usually cosmetic.

However, in this instance the subjects are clearly stating their motivation which is abhorrent. They are forced by their society to increase their height or look more white because otherwise no one would marry them or they wouldn't get a job. Don't you find that sick? They are made to feel insecure. You need to differentiate between the two.

The funny thing is that the company that makes and sells fair and lovely a skin whitening cream also sells another product called Dove which has been campaigning award winning ads called "the campaign for real beauty"...which promotes women to empower themselves and find real beauty in who they are..
It's the power of advertising and marketing at its best..

And based on one anecdotal evidence you concluded that Indians are only doing it because, "Unlike in India and the subcontinent in particular, people change their height because they are sick in the head. They seek to be white. "

While in other countries the surgery is only being allowed undertaken to to address dwarfism and deformities? Yup you are not biased at all.

Here's an example from a Caucasian country, UK.

So I guess Brits are sick in the head as well.

They cater to the needs of any given market. Such products and ads wouldn't sell like hotcakes elsewhere. That ought to tell you something about the given society.

That's hogwash...
Skin whitening, cosmetic surgeries including the famous double double eye lid surgery are most common and prevalent in East asia..
What's your prognosis there?

You're not answering my question.

- "I was just 4-foot-6-inches. People used to make fun of me and I couldn't get a job," she told the Guardian. "Now my younger sister is doing it too."

- Not unlike the popular practice of skin-lightening in India (bleach cream is a $500 million industry) this cosmetic trend can arguably find its roots in neocolonialism, given Indians tend to be shorter than Caucasians.

Are such thoughts right or wrong?

No, let me tell you what hogwash is. When you are made to believe that being fairer or longer in height equals more chance of success in life.

Besides, who says that those people in East Asia are normal who are resorting to such garbage?

To me and you it might be wrong, but to that particular person it might not be. If that 4 and half footer feels short and feels it hampers her career, then who are you and me to decide for her? We don't know what the person has faced or is going through.

And if you think these sorta reasons are only limited to Indian society, then think again.

Here's another example from UK,

'Feels amazing': Sanika Hussain, 25 after having her leg braces removed

BTW anyone below 4'10 is considered a dwarf apparently.

Dwarfism is a condition of short stature. It is defined by the advocacy group Little People of America (LPA) as an adult height of 4 feet 10 inches or under, as a result of a medical or genetic condition.

First off, how did the society "force" them to do this? All cosmetic surgeries are self elective...
Why else do you think Plastic surgeons have little to no liability insurance?

Secondly, its the individuals own complex that leads them to believe that they weren't hired because of skin color or height...there is no way to prove this unless in a civil suit against the company where the courts can decide whether systematic discrimination had taken place.

Lastly, marriage is also a very personal subject. So if no one wants to marry these people, its their right to refuse who they want to marry or not...Everyone has personal preferences..This has nothing to do with these individuals being forced into any actions to correct their apparent "flaws"

That is not what many people who perform such extreme surgeries say. They are usually brainwashed and forced by their surrounding to take such extreme measures.

This doesn't like a personal choice to me:

- "I was just 4-foot-6-inches. People used to make fun of me and I couldn't get a job," she told the Guardian. "Now my younger sister is doing it too."

The answer lies in your own paste and copy story:

"dwarfism or severe deformities, while a few had height dysphoria and did not find psychotherapy helpful"

Unlike in India and the subcontinent in particular, people change their height because they are sick in the head. They seek to be white. Just like they smear white cream on their face or perform suicide because they cannot marry. Don't defend these sick souls.

So, this ad for Indians ?

Can you prove systematic discrimination in any of these cases? That other people of short stature were refused the job? Or that they were told to their face that their height was the problem with their hiring?
