I live in Bangalore....my building alone has 5000 people working in IT, and hell we are nowhere near electronic city, which is the true heart of IT in Bangalore. We spend 1 crore per month on the cab service that transports people from office to back. This is not including Chennai, Hyderabad etc. Infosys has revenues in the range of 8 B...if you are wanting that Indian IT is puffed air, that is your prerogative, as for the rest, as long as you don't strengthen and depend upon us to be weak, anything you believe is just fine with us. :smokin:

So is India planning to skip manufacturing and focus on building IT jobs for its masses?

I think the experiences of some countries have shown that a strong economy cannot be build on IT/software alone. To become a robust economy countries have to make hardware like china. Software is becoming cheaper. School kids can do coding and are making smartphone apps. Revenues from software must be falling the world over as its market gets more competitive.

That's a secondary/tertiary point. The main problem with IT is that affects only a tiny minority. How can wealth trickle down? Manufacturing employs a much larger % of the population than IT, leads to creation of infrastructure that affects an even larger population.

Extreme simplification of the problem. It really is easier for a country like India to build an IT industry than a manufacturing one. Key issue for manufacturing is around labor laws that are virtually non-existent in china therefore they surged ahead there. IT pays more so industrial relations issues are much lesser, most importantly when the likes of CPI tried to murder a good thing by unionizing BPO/ IT workers, Nasscom successfully fought them on. CHina style labor management brings it's own problems, and a permissive legal and environmental framework was needed for them to succeed- as a dictatorship anything goes there. It don't cut that easy on our side.

How many people are employed in IT/ service industry in India compared to China? Remember, China is the second largest consumer market in the world, their China Mobile alone is bigger than the largest Indian compa

The vast majority of factory workers may earn less than an IT worker, but they still earn a lot more than the farmers in India. How else do you explain the 5x bigger Chinese GDP to India?

.
not surprised, they are very good at fixing numbers, because trade can be easily checked from both end, apart from the lousy call services I got from India, nothing from low-to-high products or services were done by Indian in the UK
