Around 8 PARAM Supercomputers are located in Russia, Singapore, Germany and Canada. PARAM's have also been sold to Tanzania, Armenia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Ghana, Myanmar, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

PUNE: The city-headquartered Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) deployed the Param Bilim supercomputer in Kazakhstan on Tuesday to boost academics and scientific research programmes.

This is C-DAC's fifth deployment on foreign soil, Hemant Darbari, executive director of the centre announced at a news conference. The deployment took place in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday evening.

The system is 10 teraflop Linux-based hybrid supercomputer. Rajat Moona, director general, C-DAC explained about the need for a supercomputer in weather and other research and scientific filed during the deployment in Kazakhstan.

Darbari said, "A demonstration of two different applications was conducted during the deployment. One was for weather modeling that displayed weather parameters. The second application demonstrates the molecular bonding between different molecules."

Darbari said this facility would be useful for carrying out research and development activities in several scientific and engineering areas. "The user can make optimum usage of the emerging technologies included in the supercomputer. Also, applications from different fields like bioinformatics, climatology, astrophysics, computational fluid dynamics, computational chemistry, molecular dynamics, finite element analysis, agriculture among others are included," said Darbari.

Demonstration of applications from climatology and bioinformatics fields will be provided by C-DAC. In the scientist exchange programme, workshops and training programmes will be conducted in India and at Kazakhstan.

Hmm are these systems bought by russia, germany too ?. if thats true its really good. One govt entity doing really good job technically :-).

India needs to thank US government.
From wiki,
India's supercomputer program was started in late 1980s because Craysupercomputers were denied for import due to an arms embargo imposed on India, as it was a dual use technology and could be used for developing nuclear weapons.[1][2]

Later india ended up using the same funds which were allocated to buying for building one. End result we ended up building better systems than CRAY and became self sufficient. Ironically CRAY filed for bankruptcy in 1995 and then got taken over by SGI.

There are lot of systems in the market but no one provides you with latest technology. Keep investing and developing technology, in due course of time results will show up. Critics of LCA should note this.

We will have fastest supercomputers in world in 7 years

Maybe - preliminary efforts have been made for research in exascale supercomputing -

India begins work on $2 Billion Exascale Supercomputer for Space & Meteorological Applications

But as of now - the top most priority is to arm each of our premier research institution and laboratory with atleast one supercomputer for enhancing research and development projects - plan is to have 70 supercomputers in the country by 2022 to enable high-level research in different fields.

India will have 70 supercomputers by 2022 to help in research: report | The Indian Express

And it is noteworthy that we have commissioned 3 new supercomputers in the first month itself

India's Fastest Supercomputer 'SahasraT' Launched at IISc - First PFlop/s HPC System (1.46 PFlop/s)
Supercomputer Bhaskara to give boost to weather forecasting - The Times of India
13th fastest supercomputer in India inaugurated at PRL | The Indian Express

Cumulative supercomputing should be the goal - having 33 supercomputers of 1 T/Flops capacity each spread across the nation will be of more utility than having a single supercomputer of 33 T/Flops capacity at one place.

:woot: Wow! I wasn't aware we have so many Param supercomputers abroad! Shows the confidence that countries have reposed on Indian made hi tech stuff!

Yes but i have one Q
Are U sure that 70 supercomputers will be set up in Educational Institutions?
It's not that i am doubting it just i don't have ful knowledge that they will be in institutions because there is nothing said in that article.

A majority of research institutions and laboratories offer academic degrees as well - like PRL which recently commissioned its supercomputer as a part of the plan is actually a research facility of Department of Space aiding ISRO - but it also offers doctoral programme in the subjects researched.

The bottom-line is they'll be used in high-level research in different fields - which often happen to be conducted in top notch educational cum research institutes like PRL and IISc.

The confidence is more based on cost effectiveness of Indian supercomputers - The systems developed by C-DAC are as cheaper as 50% than their western/US counterparts - specially firms like CRAY and IBM etc. and that's the reason a majority of the countries to which we supply these systems happen to be developing nations like Ghana, Myanmar, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan etc.

Indonesia to buy supercomputer from India instead of US.

उत्कृष्ट

Thanks Bro!
