India’s bid for ‘second strike capability’ to put pressure on Pakistan, says SPD official

Dr Riffat Hussain, a professor at NUST, was of the view that any additional military capability acquired by India would hurt Pakistan
India has just started the planning phase of its military upgradation.

Therefore there will be a massive addition in Indian defence capabilities vis a vis Pakistan down the years.

The moot question is what solutions these scholars suggested to Pakistan policymakers ? :secret:

India's bid for second strike capabilities started as early as late 1980s, how is this associated to Pakistan

But can Pakistan really neutralize India's land attack capability ?? India is too big for Pakistan to be thinking of Nuclear exchange.

And if you guys target the whole of India then the damage would just end the world. How many missiles can the world take already we have so much global warming.

Instead of concentrating on peaceful negotiations we do everything else.

You do realize that Pakistan is only responding to your developments, right?

Of Course .
Fact there is no 'balance' such thing in South Asia .Game was already over in 1971.
Be it economy, military ,technology or diplomacy India is several times powerful than anyothers in South Asia .In fact except China noone in Asia can compete simultaneously in all these field.

Pakistan can develop second strike capability .But it will only succeeds in satisfying your ego , false sense of security and draining hard warned money .
Sir, I like ur sensible posts it is explained many times that Pakistan was going to loose 71 war due to a number of reasons, but now scenario is different . India is more vulnerable as it has got many economic hubs which are heart of whole Indian economy , in any future war (which I hope should not happen) Pak shall require to target only few big economic hubs of India to destroy Indian spinal cord. Meanwhile in case of Pakistan no such hubs exist moreover many big Pak cities are few miles away from Indian territory so India may not be technically in position to target many cities without compromising lives of own population.

I sincerely hope you work for the Indian Military planning division or something.

He did not explain any specifics about the second strike capability, which could be sea, air or land based.

It is still unclear if Pakistan was any closer to the submarine based ‘assured second strike capability’ for stable deterrence, particularly at time when India has already made the moves towards it.

Discussing Pakistan’s second strike capability, President SVI Dr Zafar Iqbal Cheema said that Pakistan had improved its second strike capability.

Pakistan’s second strike capability, Dr Cheema said, has been augmented by deployment of Hatf-VII/Baber nuclear capable cruise missile that is launchable from aircrafts and conventional submarines. It is further fortified by the deployment of Hatf-VIII/Ra’ad air launched cruise missile, he added.

nothing confirmed, so it's just hot air till we see something.

as Pakistan's defense Policy is Minimum Credible defense against India, Any development in Indian defence needs to derive a counter from Pakistan, it should be a priority and due diligence for them.
Just because India develops something keeping the eastern border in view, doesn't necessarily mean it cannot be used in the western front.

China Pakistan Nexus has and will turn out to be the biggest headache for India.

All such analysis of Nuclear war are just assumptions and theoretical calculations.
2nd strike capability can be land based, air based and sea based. It all depends where, when & how your enemy is using Nukes against you.
Is your enemy hitting your strategic sites? Or civilian targets? Is it just delivering whole nuke passage instantly or nuking you at different time intervals......
Any way, no matter how destructive nukes are or how deadly their side effects are, surviving nuclear war is possible even for organic life under specific conditions. Securing Land based nukes is even more feasible.
Can nukes destroy under ground nuclear facilities in mountains regions? In heavily fortified & nuclear blast proof environment? Yes it can and No it can't ...... It's dependant quantity.....
Having TEL based delivery system offer you flexibility of choice & operation as well as increase the surveillance survivability of your nuclear weapons in a nuclear war.
You can remain in hibernation mode during the first strike of your enemy. And once it's over, you can move your TEL missiles via under ground tunnels thus exposing your vehicle to open only when you are in stand by mode..........

Same thing can be done for squadrons stationed under ground for delivering nuclear package at appropriate time.

I do believe that both countries have second strike capability to some extent right now and in future they both will increase its capabilities.

But being smaller in size and lack of strategic depth, Pakistan will always remain in dis advantage naturally........

Hence the need of MORE nukes is born as you have to hit MORE targets than your enemy.

assured second strike capability
You guys have learnt a new thing, and you people will play with this term for while.
Term "assured" is theoretical ...... It's not real........

nothing confirmed, so it's just hot air till we see something.
Seeing is believing........
But hiding the best move from enemy is also an effective strategy...... and Pakistan have proved it many times in history. Unlike India, we just can't announce every thing in front of World....... it bring risk for our interests

why talk about it and brag if the idea was to hide it ?

Well, don't expect to see anything in your fleet review and unlike some Pakistan doesn't give deadlines so the hot air is something of a self goal, however for anyone with keen eye, the writing has been on the wall for a while.

to hide it ?
Forth Generation war fare.
Where you claim what you don't have and don't claim what you have.
It's good to keep enemy minds in confusing condition ........
Arihant ssbn, K4 and K5 slbms are real
You missed my point.
I was focussed on term "assured" ........

Like we said earlier.....It wud MAD in reality then. Rest assured.

Pakistan and India approach regarding "nukes in sea" is very different from each other.
Both have their own advantages & disadvantages.
Pakistan will never reveal or admit the testing of Babur SLCM from current Agusta fleet of Navy. As it cannot take risk of Global pressure and also can not "prove" itself as irresponsible nuclear state which is violating agreements with France and using their platform. as far as I know, Pakistan WILL use S20 as platform for nuclear strike. How many of S20 will be armed with Nuclear cruise missiles? Eight? Four? And how many nukes each submarine will carry? Nothing is known yet.
And there is GOOD reason why Pakistan is manufacturing Four Submarines in Karachi and will buy four from China .........
As one set of FOUR is "different" from other set of FOUR.

You do realize that Pakistan is only responding to your developments, right?

But India as a country aspires to be a super power militarily and economically that is our vision and that is why we are acquiring these technologies.

These have nothing to do with Pakistan.

Like we said earlier.....It wud MAD in reality then. Rest assured.
The concept of Mutual Assured Destruction is also theoretical. As we are not aware of exact definition of "destruction" Here ......

But India as a country aspires to be a super power militarily and economically that is our vision and that is why we are acquiring these technologies.

These have nothing to do with Pakistan.
Grow up.
Stop believing so much on idealistic statements.......
