India's Ambassador Gets Pat-Down At US Airport

respect is one thing but she was a ambassador why such things only happen in US and not in Europe and other places where people have some kind of sense and logic.

In Heathrow, a woman with large breasts was singled out for the pat down.. she said that as she appraoched the security zone .. she noticed 2 male security personal sizing her up and checking her out and then one smugly approached her asking for further checking although she was clear from X ray machine.

she maintains that while checking her both male staff members kept their eyes fixed in her blouse. the people in the que could see what was happening but no one dared to speak up as these security people can abuse their powers by delaying the passengers and causing undue stress.

regarding this incident I am not sure what those racist cow boys were looking for from a respected elderly lady. these red necks have no respect for other cultures and then they wonder why the world hates them.

With all due respect, Heathrow is NOT a US airport, and thus those screeners CANNOT qualify as "cowboys"! :D

you are very smart my friend..
I am sorry I didnt clarify ... what I meant by "regarding this incident"

I meant to say the incident relating to Indian the diplomat in USA..
I thought to mention what has happend in England already recently after USA demanded tougher screening from UK for the trans-Atlantic flights.

I will just edit my post and clarify that.. so that people are clear that I am referring to the Indian diplomat when I say respected elderly lady

you are so smart that you picked up this point before I could edit my post and clarify that. bravo:yahoo:

To be very honest....

I have a mixed opinion regarding the stringent TSA pat downs....

I can see how they can be rather embarassing for some, and in some cases, simply insensitive and disrespectful....

Nevetheless, this is for our own security....
Would I rather be "groped" and be safe than be a victim of a 9/11 style attack, bombing or a hijacking? I think the former is a better option in the larger scheme of things...
Plus....we all can see the fallout of a 9/11 type incidence....not just in the US but even abroad (South Asians and Arabs in general)...prevention is better than cure....do we need more WOT?

I would rather be safe than sorry....

US regrets pat down of Indian ambassador Meera Shankar

The US on Thursday expressed concern over the patting down of Indian ambassador Meera Shankar at an airport in Mississippi last week and reached out to her regretting the incident. “We obviously are concerned about it,” said US secretary of state Hillary Clinton. Around the same time the state department reached out to Ambassador Shankar.

“The US department of state has reached out to the ambassador and has regretted what all happened,” said Indian embassy spokesperson Virendar Paul.

Shankar was pulled out of a security line at Jackson airport in Mississippi for a secondary screening despite the fact that she had passed throuh the metal frame without setting off an alarm.

Indian embassy officials said Shankar was singled out for her sari, an unfamiliar dress in this country.

The Transportation Security Administration, which runs security at all US airports, defended the pat down saying no one is exempted.

Clinton spoke about a review on Thursday, but did not elaborate. “But certainly, we will be looking into it and not only responding to the Indian foreign minister but also reviewing the policies.”

Indian external affairs minister S M Krishna had called the incident “unacceptable”.

The pat downs are immensely unpopular with some Americans – recent polls showed that most people feel incovenienced by it but consider it a necessary evil. Some flyers have vowed to not fly till it’s ended.

Not every passenger is subjecte to a pat down. It’s a secondary screening administered on a passenger who sets off a metal frame alarm or something is found suspicious during a body screening.

Or if he or she refused a body imaging security check.

i won't mind the same procedure be followed at all importence public places in india too..

US goes tighten their security , as a result no repeat of 9/11 ,....

i see that scanner at TV yesterday , i think it's a good idea if we can also instal those machines at owr railway stations and airports....

FB scanners are too expensive for our airports. Till then pat downs work just fine... we have plenty of cheap labor available in India... no need to spend money on some fancy gadget.

They happen in the US only because Americans are the superior human race allowed to freely stomp on everyone and get away with a mere apology...unless they meet the chinese or the russians who they still fear....cuz they know the chinese would make their ambassador strip naked in the streets of Beijing for the world to see in return...and Putin's mafia would probably throw em off a flanker cuz they dont give a damn about the world opinion when it comes to dignity and honour...heck i bet KGBs agents caught in the US are treated with more respect than 3rd world's so called gutless and impotent leaders...with impartiality, i mean this goes both for Pakistani and Indian leadership that are Pu55y holes...

Why blame the americans...blame yourself for electing these gutless goons to the seat...

if it was the first time this has happened I would dismiss it as a one off but this is the 3rd time im hearing of such cases but the worst of them all was the Abdul Kalam frisking which happened in Delhi in India! by an American airline

I heard peswas took pride in their self respect. The way you accept to be groped to live should make you less worthy to have that name. We don't talk about you here. We are here talking about our Ambassador to USA. There is a lot of difference between you and Mrs. Ambassador.

Indian Ambassador is female and this is really bad i hope Indians will lodge strong protest.

Tensions With India Grow After US Cheers TSA Groping of Ambassador
Tensions With India Grow After US Cheers TSA Groping of Ambassador -- News from Antiwar.com

US State Department officials are cheering tonight after TSA workers in Jackson, Mississippi subjected the Indian Ambassador to the United States Meera Shankar to an “enhanced pat-down” on the grounds that she was wearing a sari, traditional Indian garb.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano also defended the frisking of the Indian ambassador, insisting that it was “by the book” and that diplomats have to subject themselves to the same “basic screening” as everyone else.

But the sexually-charged pat downs are not “basic screening” in most of the world, and indeed have sparked a growing outcry from opponents in the United States, though officials maintain that the policy won’t change no matter how much popular opposition there is.

In the meantime, however, the US is going to have to contend with some serious fallout over Ms. Shankar’s groping, and India’s Foreign Minister has already pledged to raise the issue with the Obama Administration.

Indians are already upset by the TSA’s policies, and many have complained they are being singled out for being suspiciously dark-colored. The issue became prominent with many Indians after the 2009 detention of movie star Shahrukh Khan.

State Dept Insists 'Enhanced Pat-Down' of Ambassador Perfectly Fine

Every passenger has to go through the same procedure so why is
the Indian Ambassador complaining ?

Easy there compadre....

As I mentioned....the procedures have been placed for the security of the passengers....and diplomats cannot be exempt from it either....its the law and one needs to follow it irrespective of their stature....

You dont think Americans face this on a daily basis? If for some reason, the TSA singled out Indians for the pat downs, then I can see your point

And its not like Im giving the entire American populace a free for all crotch grab at my expense....

Flying has become a dangerous affair especially in the US....prevention is better than cure

PS: WTH does my screenname have to do with my personal view on safety while flying? You're getting emotional for no reason my friend...
