Jute goods duty unexpected
Star Business Desk
India's 14 percent duty on exports of jute goods will hurt Bangladesh, the commerce ministry said yesterday.

“This duty imposition is unexpected,” it said. The ministry has decided to deal with the issue. The government considers several options to convey its concern to the Indian authority.

Discard India, find another market, why crying for, if your products have demand in some where else? If they can impose tax/duty then why you cannot on some of their products. Because you cannot go without Indian products. It's funny when BD screams for these reasons.

Also it's funny when BD requests India to use rubber bullet in International border instead of doing something that really can make BSF stop shooting on unarmed people. Tell me, who on Earth will be agree to use rubber bullet in International Border. BD has completely failed to protect it's people, or stop its people going in India illegally. Now everything seems as our predestination to get bullets and barriers from India every now and then.

I agree about the jute exports part. According to many members here many Indians, jute farmers among them, are poor and are yet to construct their toilets. India has to protect their interests.

I agree that India must protect its interests. India has every right to do so. So now it's BD's duty to protect herself by any means, by creating any other way, or by encountering Indian policy if BD can, if BD has power. There is no way to blame others if you don't have gut or ability.

Very patriotic and inspirational of you. But thats not how it really works. At the moment, we are very dependant on India, and if you go thru the forum, they only talk about how our relationship is beneficial for both of us and what not crap.
Matter of fact, the recent relationship between the two countries has no gain for bangladesh whatsoever. By setting up their companies on our soil, they are driving the local markets out of business. The recent set up of Airtel has put constraint on other mobile networks. ANd theres a rumour that perhaps, TATA might come into our field, which will drive out more national markets. Don't forget, when Enron tried to privatize their fields in India, people have constantly protested. The recent 14% duty on jute is a sign that even poor people are not safe anymore. The same poor people they kill when they try to go to their land for a better life.

India to waive duty on jute goods

The Indian government has withdrawn its decision of imposing 14 percent duty on export of Bangladesh made jute and jute goods to India, a commerce ministry spokesman told the news agency yesterday.
Earlier, the Indian government decided to impose 14 percent Countervailing Duty (CVD) and additional countervailing Duty (ACVD) on the same.

The Bangladesh High Commission in India and the commerce ministry confirmed the news of decision to waive the tax on jute export.

The decision to waive the tax has resolved the deadlock of jute and jute goods valued Tk 350 crore.

The Indian government issued a circular to import 14 percent tax on January 18. The commerce ministry condemned in reply to the decision of imposing 14 percent duty on export of jute goods.

Later, the issue of tax waive was discussed at a meeting with the ministry and some major decisions were taken including communication at diplomatic level at the meeting.

Huh!
Didn really think that the GOV of India follows defence.pk. A simple gesture like that can save them a thousand spanks from us, per day.:smokin:

Indians have to worry about their own rural toilets. Many rural households in India do not even have toilets. It can be a news among our farm population. Every hosehold has two toilets in BD. One for men and the other for women.

India does not have to waive duty to redress any of our problems. Issue here is why India should impose duties on our goods when the balance of payment is about $3 billion in favour of India!
