India.

The clarification comes after reports emerged in Pakistan that the pacer-turned-commentator had reportedly been denied permission by the Indian government to commentate in the upcoming T20 Champions League tournament starting in India from October 8.

However sources in IPL have told us that the decision to include him in the commentary team will be taken by the host broadcaster and that there are no such policy instructions from the government.

Meanwhile Akram was among the favourites to take up the job as a bowling coach with IPL outfit the Kolkata Knight Riders but was unable to do so following similar instructions. But Akram is still slated to hold a camp with the Knight Riders but the the fate of that may well rest on the BCCI and the Indian government.

Earlier, India's decision to put on hold all Indo-Pak cricketing exchanges has now been extended to the commentary box, with Pakistan pace legend Wasim Akram being removed from the list of commentators for the upcoming Champions League T20 event starting on October 8. Akram is currently in South Africa to commentate on the ongoing Champions Trophy.

The government's decision puts Akram in a fix since he is a bowling consultant for IPL team Knight Riders and is scheduled to fly to New Delhi for the last three days of a camp being held in Gurgaon.

The IPL, incidentally, suspended contracts of Pakistani players ahead of this year's edition in a fallout of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

"Yes, I know about the decision but I don't know if the government is involved. Let me find out what is happening," Akram said.

Sources, however, said Akram would go ahead with his plans to visit the KR camp in his role as consultant.

The Pak legend, though, will be joining the Knight Riders camp in Gurgaon and will be leaving on Tuesday to be in the camp for three days before flying back to Lahore.

The camp had been extended by a day to suit his schedule. Interestingly, in spite of the governments efforts, there will be a Pakistan presence in the Champions League: Sussex’s Pakistani seamer Yasir Arafat, who has been named in the Sussex Sharks squad. It remains to be seen if the government objects to his presence.

If its true then its a shame.

But I really doubt the truth behind the news. The Indian news paper link given here is simply quoting the Pak paper 'Jang'.

On the other hand Rajdeep Sardesai of CNN IBN tweets today----

sardesairajdeep controversy over wasim akram not being allowed to do commentary in india very avoidable. indian govt never said no, pak papers misleading.

sardesairajdeep we journalists have lost the art of cross-checking. pak papers say something, agencies pick it up, newspapers and channels parrot it.

sardesairajdeep
its espn star who must tell us why they dropped akram from commentary panel. being more loyal than the king?

Agreed this shoul not happen. I love Wasim and his conduct is very good. I want him to coach India, one of the best bowling coach and great bowler.

indians have always been jealous of pakistan fast bowling talent, whats new?

it must really get to them that 1 billion+ cricket mad people have never produced anything close to a fast bowling great, just dross mediocrity.

I hope that this would never happen. :(
Apart from being a great player, he is a very good commentator too.

Stop your darn rant. :blah: Probably you don't know who is Kapil Dev, don't start a flame war. We Indians already regretted even before the news is confirmed. Thanks.

Sad.

I think compared to other Pakistani players like Javed Miandad and their ilk (add Imran Khan to the list too), all Indians love Wasim Akram ..... spectators as well as Indian players (post Wasim's retirement of course :)). I personally realy respect him as probably one of the top 10 bowlers of all time (definitely the top left arm pacer) and have always enjoyed his commentary and his cultured and charming behaviour. The fact that he did all this as a diabetic only makes one's respect and admiration grow.

He has always put India-Pakistan tensions aside and come across as a true sportsman, and has always been ready to help our pacers out with his HUGE bag of experience and tips. We would be hugely lucky if we could get him as our bowling coach instead of the current incumbent who specialises in taking sharp young fast bowlers and making blunted burnt out slow/pace change bowlers out of them!

As you can see I am a major Wasim Akram fan. As a school kid, I remember me and my friends even chatting with a pimply lanky long haired new-kid-on-the-block Wasim in the swimming pool in United Club, Jamshedpur, when he and Imran Khan came for a cool down swim after practice on their tour of India. :)

Cheers, Doc

blah..blah...blah...blah , Let me ask you dont you feel ashamed when hafeez saeed and dawood ibrahim, with collective score of over 10000 murders roam free in your country ? What goes around comes back around, we indians were telling you this since the day you made mockery of indian loss at CT. And now Pak team is out too.

Apparently, its the sports channel who dropped him not the govt. Ahh. i forgot, this is not the first time that trollers like you eat his/her own words in public.

kapil dev was a good all rounder, one of the best, but not such a great bowler, nowhere near akram.

no indian fast bowler is anywhere near guys like lilee, mcgrath, akram et al thats quite amazing when they have 1 billion+ people and are cricket mad.

by all rights india should be undisputed no.1 and be producing a conveyor belt of talent, instead they have sharma

its good that you have a 3 between R and A because an E would have made you a 'REALIST' which you ironically certainly aren't... so called kapil dev is noo where akram.. ok let me google a little .. he certainly has more wickets that AkRaM in tests... i am a purist so ODIs ,i really dont care about... i ,ofcourse, forgot that bowling is just for FAST bowlers.. rest others who are spinners are just to make up the numbers.. right.. kumble, prassana, bedi, chandrasekhar, hirwani just to name a few ... Srinath wasn't bad at all.. and do search for the numbers of wickets he ended up gettin.. and yeaa but not the least your HAHA sharma was nominated for the emerging players award by icc in 2008.. the only pakistanis in the list were in the umpire category and one Mr.yousuf( odi category) who had left national cricket for ICL.. lol... again reading your post i ws under the notion that may b pakistan ws producing such magical wonders and ackowledged by the whole world.. if i see last years and this years ICC list it all turned out to a balooney notion. ALL SAID AND DONE.. AKRAM IS A GOOD COMMENTATOR .. WHO CARES IF HE FUMBLES A LOT.. IT JUST ADDS TO THE MULTI national masala which is about to get served on a platter in india.

even ban will be lifted if wasim has some self respect he should ban himself from any indian cricket event and stop helping indians and this champions trpohy is not true champions trophy because true T 20 champs are pakistan if their club team is not particepating of dont take it seriously CT where was the charm of last IPL no where near of the first one

Did I compared Kapil with wasim?

He is not quick but it doesn't mean he is not a great bowler. Show some respect. In 1994 he broke Richard hadlee's record and become the highest wicket taker in the world, In 1988 he overtook Joel garner and become the highest wicket taker in ODI, with 250 ODI wickets and more than 400 in test cricket makes him one of the great bowlers in cricket history. I'm not proving i'm educating.

Have a break and don't start your cha cha cha again :blah:
