And they're sub-standard intellectuals because they returned an award and protested?

No matter what your support to the government, the reasons why they began the protest was extremely legitimate and important. They began this protest because the Sahitya Academy refused to condemn the death of Kalaburgi.
I don't think in Indian history a major government organization has failed in it's duty this way and it's implicaitons are serious- it means that the academy is ready to support all the Swamis and Babas having a free run. The Asaram bapus who are running free today, if challenged by a journalist who is shot dead will get silent support.

Where was sahitya akademi and all these pillars of rationalism when narendra dabholkar was killed under congress rule? And why are these dumdums coming out now that kaburgi has been killed, again under congress rule and blaming BJP for it???
