@Red Dwarf and others who are questioning ability of our commandos.
About Mumbai operation.
I am briefly sketching how operations happened and will leave it to you to determine how good or bad NSG is.
Attack started at 9 PM on Saturday and by 11 PM all four terrorist was inside Taj Hotel, they were virtually unchallenged for at least 10 hours, till next morning, now think 4 people have 10 hours to position themselves. 10 hours is not a small duration man.
Add to it, there were no maps available of the hotel, the hotel has around 400 rooms and NSG has to make sure there is no collateral damage as possible.
So they knock on each door as the person to open it, it not opened blow the door and then get inside. This they have to do for 400 rooms approximately.
Tell me similar such attack were in similar setup terrorist was given 10 hours to plan.
Few things to add about how police reacted, they actually did nothing much the whole night, but waiting for NSG. In 2 occasions one for 12 min and other for 2 hours they knew exactly where the terrorist were, ACP asked for CP to attack but was declined.
IMO it was failure of police then the commandos, they neither had training, nor weapons. Had they got AK 47 with them thing might have been different. With force one created if something similar is tries 24 hours will be maximum.
Same attack on VT, When Kasab and other fellow were firing, there were at least 2 dozen policemen in that area mostly having only 303 rifle and that too they were not sure it will work.
I can go on and on, but want to keep it short. Read some material on how operation happened.
Now comes to attack that happened yesterday and how we dealt with it.
First thing you have to understand is how you measure the success and failure of an operation. If speed might be your criteria but security forces does not think like you, for them minimum damage to life and people is top priority and IMO they have it right. Easier to say when you are not one of them, this is not one time incidence it happens every other day, so just to satisfy your ego that we finished it in 10 min, they cannot take more damage. They also have life, there has to be some reason of risking it.
When any such situation arise, this is how they operate.
Vacate the area and position people in such a way that terrorist cannot escape.
Then wait for the right team to arrive to start the operation, till then collect all data and create a plan. Now what is wrong with this, when everyone was out there was no more casualties possible, why not wait for right people to do it.
Now if sun is set and visibility is an issue they put flood lights and wait for morning. By doing this the terrorist actually get tired too. While the actual force who will do the operation sleeps at night.
So 24 hrs is not bad at all.
Remember GHQ operation did something similar they waited at night and attacked next morning. So dude before pointing fingers read how this is done.
