Russia's sale of Su-30MKI fighters in India rose to 102 million unit

Indian Air Force Su-30MKI multi-purpose equipment, aircraft
LONDON August 18 news: According to Russia's "ties" network on August 17 reported that the Indian media recently revealed that Russia has sold India Su-30MKI multi-purpose fighter unit significantly increased 1.5-fold.

India's cable news channel NewsX reports, India in 2007 to buy 40 Russian Su-30MKI with only spent 1.5 billion U.S. dollars, while the Russian side of the Indian Air Force purchased 42 new this year, Su-30MKI's offer is 4.29 billion U.S. dollars. That is, in a short period of three years, the unit price of Su-30MKI soared from 40 million U.S. dollars to 102 million U.S. dollars.

Indian strategic analysts, the former Air Force Major General Kac noted that the Russian side of the Su-30MKI's latest offer was "very, very high", the price even faster to catch up with the latest development of the U.S. fifth generation fighter F-35. This should be noted that, after Lockheed Martin has been selling Indian Navy carrier-based version of the F-35. Does not exclude the United States in the future to sell to the Indian Air Force F-35 possibilities.

U.S. Department of Defense had on the production model F-35 is valued at 150 million U.S. dollars, however, with the expansion of production scale, the price may be declining. For example, Israel plans to buy a Boeing F-35 will not pay more than 137 million U.S. dollars, while Japan received F-35's price may be lower - from 110 million to 120 million U.S. dollars.

However, Russia currently does not disclose the offer to the Indian Su-30MKI fighters 42 the details of the new contract. Some experts pointed out that Russia's latest offer may include airborne weapons and other accessories, such as French-made radar and electronic devices.Addition, the contract may also include ground support equipment. In any case, Russia's obviously beyond the offer of India's expected value.

It is reported that the new Indian Air Force Su-30MKI purchase of these aircraft will be delivered in 2014-2018 years. As a result, Indian Air Force Su-30MKI equipment will reach 272.

Aircraft deals with ‘friend’ Russia costing dear

Aircraft deals with ‘friend’ Russia costing dear - India - DNA

With an astronomical 155% increase in price in three years, the Russian Sukhoi-30 fighter aircraft seem to be going the Gorshkov way.

The deal for aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov was hammered in 2004 for $974 million (Rs4,560 crore), but it was renegotiated in 2010 at $2.3 billion (Rs10,770 crore).

After the Indian Air Force (IAF) wrote to the ministry of defence expressing concern at its depleting strength and pressing for immediate purchase of 40 Sukhois-30s under the fast-track provision, which does not warrant tendering or open competition, a deal was inked with Russia in 2007 for $1.6 billion (Rs7,490 crore), that is $40 million (Rs190 crore) a piece.

Latest figures tabled in parliament, however, show that another deal for 40 + 2 Sukhois (2 are replacements for aircraft that crashed last year), to be manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautical Limited (HAL) under licence from the Russian Federation’s Irkutsk, has been struck for $4.3 billion (Rs20,125 crore), that is $102 million (Rs480 crore) a piece.

The latest deal will make the IAF inventory 270-strong and India the largest operator of Sukhois by 2018, when HAL is to deliver the aircraft.

But the escalation in cost cannot be justified, especially since the aircraft being manufactured by HAL do not have enhanced features, such as the AESA (active electronically scanned array) radar. Defence experts, in fact, are of the view that since the assembly line is in Bangalore, where HAL is based, the latest deal should have cost less.

The deal becomes even more loss-making since American fifth-generation fighter aircraft, F-35, manufactured by Lockheed Martin are priced at $100 million (Rs470 crore) a piece. F-35, an advanced stealth fighter with features such as supercruise and AESA radar, competes with fourth-generation fighters, such as Eurofighter Typhoon and the French Rafale, in Norway and Denmark for deals.

The American F-16, again made by Lockheed Martin, is competing in India for IAF’s fighter jet deal with Typhoon and Rafale.
IAF already has these four-plus generation fighters, which are awaiting clearance for upgrade in a separate deal involving Irkutsk and HAL.

The “deep upgrade” will include enhanced combat features, systems and avionics, which would increase the flight performance and keep the aircraft in service for a longer duration. The biggest feature of the “deep upgrade” is the inclusion of the AESA radars replacing the passive radars in IAF Sukhois.

The twin-engine heavy-weight Sukhoi entered IAF service in 2000 after clearance in 1997, but has not undergone any upgrade since.

so guys can now we be sure that these 42 new sukhois will have upgrade package which justifies the cost escalation to some extent ?

Present deal include life time maintaince cost .previously only cost per plane is considered

i think indian taxpayer is being fleeced by both russian and indian defence setups. they are equally corrupt.

LOL....French made radar:cheesy:

As far as i remember ,India plans to upg the first 100 Su30Mki starting 2012
and the price being quoted by defence minister is Rs 10900 cr which translate into 2.32 Billion USD or to be precise 23.2 Million USD per aircraft
which though more expensive than the 965 million deal to upg 63 Mig29s @ 15.2 million USD each , but it is far cheaper than the 2.2 billion deal to upg 51 IAF Mirage 2000H @ 42 million each

Why you want only Russia to upgrade your MKIs.

If i am not wrong you guys do license produce MKI in India. You have good relations with other suppliers also.

So why don't you try the best combination American engines in a Russian Airframe combined with Israeli avionics.

I am sure that would make a deadly combination.

Well , the MKI contains lots of Israeli and french content , so we will be dealing with them as well Russia based Irkut corporation and Indian HAL are the chief system integrators of Mki
if u read the above post then there is talk of adding AESA radar which could be french
However this is mainly a system and avionics upg however certain reports also suggest airframe upg so as to reduce the RCS of the aircrafts
I believe u know guys know the fact that Su30 Mki has an RCS of 10 sqm compared to Su35BM with an RCS of 1 sqm , while both are derived from the same Su27 aircraft , so there is quite a bit of possibilty that certain changes might be made to airframe to reduce RCS

Considering the fact that the ongoing Mig29s upg to Mig29smt standard will result in RCS reduction of upto 80 % compared basic mig29
As far as engine upg is concerned , IAF is not interested in it at present , it will probably be taken up in second upg due in 2025.

American engines simply cant thrust vector like Russian ones and Americans wont give us complete ToT.
We do use American engines on the LCA
