An army jawan shot dead five of his colleagues and killed himself on Wednesday night in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district, an official said Thursday morning.
The deaths of the jawans took place in an army camp, said spokesperson Lt Col NN Joshi. An army court of inquiry will investigate the deaths. Details about the incident would emerge later.

Army and paramilitary troops posted in Kashmir and other 'disturbed' areas of the country have often complained about adverse working conditions. Factors like long working hours and denial of leave are often blamed for soldiers going berserk.

Fratricide again.. RIP.

RIP guys. Next time choose a better target. There are many dirty politicians out there who deserve such treatment not the soldiers

In any conflict zone, the cases of mental depression and stress are common phenomena, but in case of the controlled Kashmir, the trend has increased. It is because of this fact that that Indian armed forces have been so demoralized by fighting with the freedom fighters that either they commit suicide or kill their own colleagues and seniors. They completely lack ‘will to fight’ or ‘moral force.’

The ongoing different war between the Indian state terrorists and the Kashmiri people has proved without any doubt that such elements like ‘will to fight’ and ‘moral force’ have been more noted in the latter who have exerted psychological impact of causing fear, shock, mental depression and stress, resulting in demoralization of the Indian military and paramilitary troops.

In this regard, numerous cases of suicides among Indian troops—opening fire on their colleagues and several other tense reactions have been reported in respect of Indian forces in the controlled territories of Kashmir.

In the past, Lt. Col. Pankaj Jha shot himself with a service revolver, while Maj Sobha Rani, Capt Sunit Kohli, Lt Sushmita Chatterjee and a number of other officers of the Indian army also did the same in one or the other way.

Indian defence analysts and psychologists have indicated various causes of suicides and fratricides, found in the Indian military, stationed in the Jammu and Kashmir. They have attributed these trends to “continuous work under extreme hostile conditions, perpetual threat to life, absence of ideal living conditions, lack of recreational avenues, and of course; the home sickness due to long separation from families.”

Indian soldiers are getting desperate specially those deployed in Kashmir and these kind of things will increase if they kept fighting Kashmiris these kind of incidents will only increase @AUz @OrionHunter

its not about the morale is low there in Kashmir because of insurgency. had it be the reason....then there would be major success for infiltrators and so called freedom fighters.. problem lies in army itself in better management .

That's the height of delusion not to accept the truth that insurgency has failed in Kashmir. You forget, the current insurgency in Kashmir is only the remnant and Srinagar is much safer than major Pakistani cities.

You are only grumbling, there is extremely low casualty rate in Kashmir, we have won over the insurgents.

The disturbances are only limited to Srinagar and its outskirts(Ganderbal is north). That's where foreign extremists still get shelter. 'Cultured educated liberal' city folks :hitwall:

Know how much a guy gets for throwing stones at Indian policemen?
Rs. 5000  I don't blame the kids who do that. We really don't have anything.

@chak de INDIA - Trust me - they do get paid. For adults it is around 5k, for kids lesser. Most of the street violence is funded. Most of the folks don't give a damn what the demand is - as long as they throw a few stones and get the money. Rs.5000 in the Valley is equivalent to 10000 to 15000 in the mainland... so a family can get by for almost a month :( No industries et al... tourism can't sustain all now, can it? And then these yahoos come and spoil that also :hitwall:
