Indian Scram jet Engine to be tested in 2014

and the punch line alway is the big 'will'``

Yup, when 2014 comes along, the date will be pushed back a further 3 years.
Rinse and repeat.

Just like how Kaveri engine was going to be ready or how India was going to put a man into space. I would say of all the Indian military has promised, give or take, around 95% have been delayed or turned into humiliating failures (eg. Kaveri).

any data or evidence to prove the claim of '95%' part? or is it just another 'hate India' Chinese slogan?

India will flight test its scramjet engine developed by defense scientists in 2014. Chief controller, Research and Development (Missiles and strategic systems), DRDO Avinash Chander told reporters here on Wednesday that two countries in the world had tested the scramjet engine, but in only one case the flight was successful. “Scramjet technology is still going through the testing phase,” he said. A scramjet engine can provide speed up to Mach 12, though India’s scramjet engine is said to be aimed at achieving Mach 6 speed which is 5,800 km/hr.

The 26th national convention of aerospace engineers and national seminar on ‘Expanding frontiers in aerospace technologies – challenges and opportunities’ is being organised by the aerospace engineering division board of the Institution of Engineers (India), Andhra Pradesh centre on November 24-25 to discuss these issues.

Avinash Chander, who is the co-chairman of the national organizing committee, said cyber and space warfare were the new emerging areas where wars would be fought and India will have to prepare for it. During the meet, India’s Mars mission will also be discussed. Avinash Chander said the country has been able to leverage the spin offs of space technology for developmental purposes as well. He said the challenge now was also to harness energy from space.

Apart from making India capable of handling its defense in the space, he said the challenge was also to come up with technologies that would make space travel and tourism economical.

V K Saraswat, scientific advisor to defence minister, will inaugurate the convention and Rajaram Nagappa, distinguished professor, National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore, V Adimurthy, dean, Indian Institute of Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, S K Shiva Kumar, director, Isro Satellite Centre (ISAC) will speak at the meet.

why is there a picture of Turbo Fan engine, in the story of a scramjet ?

Lolz... Hasn't even made a Jet Engine which can go above Mach 1 yet wants to make a scramjet engine... This project will have the same fate as other Indian defence projects, tossed and forgotten ;)

Take eno, acidity is not good for health, it affects the brain.

The Thiruvananthapuram-based Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) had designed and ground tested a scramjet in 2005.A press release stated that stable supersonic combustion was demonstrated in ground testing for nearly seven seconds with an inlet Mach number of six.
In 2008, a flight test of a full engine (intake, combustion and nozzle) was conducted. It was a suborbital ballistic trajectory based experiment using a two-stage RH-560 sounding rocket.

India is currently developing a SSTO reusable spacecraft called the AVATAR RLV. It uses scramjet propulsion to reach LEO carrying a 1 tonne payload. Its maiden flight is expected to take place in 2013.

If e can develop LCH which can reach service ceiling of 20,000 feets and sophisticated missile like Agni 4, why you do think we cant develop Scramjet engine?

BTW Only US and Russia has this tech as of now.

Poor Attempt to Troll.. ISRO and DRDO both have developed their own versions of Air Breathing Propulsion and have tested it successfully for well over Mach 2.

do you have a picture of scram jet?

what are different kinds of jet engines there?
is India working on flying at the Stratosphere? thats the big boy's play ground and uncle Sam might have a say in it

btw
this news brings American Aurora Bomber (concept) to mind.
(there might be civilian commercial uses there but hey thats soo boring )

I also recall the tit for tat ant-satellite tests by China and America. Space indeed is the next frontier (if not the final one lol)
