PANAJI: Indian Railways will soon set up a station in Arunachal Pradesh near the India-China border, defence minister Manohar Parrikar said on Saturday.

"A draft of the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) is ready and will be signed soon," Parrikar said, adding he has spoken in detail about the project to railway minister Suresh Prabhu.

The defence minister said that the "gravity" of the border issue between China and India has come down as far as Arunachal Pradesh is concerned.

State run China Daily had reported on Thursday that China was planning to build a tunnel under Mount Everest, called Qomolangma in Tibetan, as part of its plan to extend its rail link to Nepal, a move that could send alarm bills ringing in India.

This is the first time a tunnel plan has been revealed to reach Nepal. China had earlier discussed extending the Qinghai-Lhasa line to the Nepalese border without digging a tunnel.

Sources said the idea was to find a short route to Nepal for accessing the vast Indian market. Besides, China might be trying to involve Nepal for its Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar (BCIM) project because New Delhi has shown little enthusiasm for this corridor, sources said.

Indians have a big mouth and nothing to show for. They should complete the project without grabbing any attention. The project will remain on paper for another 2-4 years after which it might or might not get completed. Look at the chinese they dont issue any statements, they show their intent on the ground.

At this rate no one will take us seriously.

Agreed. Keep your head down, and do the work. Talking can wait.

Can we have pics of the construction rather than this yapping ? Freaking losers !

First build than talk. It will be such a challenge to establish railway communication till.boarders at Arunachal due to unforgiving hilly tarrain not to mention coupled with vast dense forests. Will need lots of investments, technology, humen resource to pull it off.

Were building railways inside our borders. So we build it as we want. You're talking as of we are building it inside your country.

As for big mouth we remember who waabwhining agaisnr a tiny Norway when they have Nobel prize to a Chinese CCP dissident. All your military might & political clout was met with a finger in return from a nation that hasn't fought a war in 2 centuries.

Seems like you've a bigger mouth than us as well.

We cannot build railways when we want, need to build when we need. our china policy is reactive than being pro-active.
Even if china attacks us today it will take serious amount of time to send troops to the border. We should have economically grown the region faster and established infrastructure/industries there. Then china would think twice about sending soldiers/railways.

Well I bet you dint see my flag :-).

But we indians certainly have big mouths, delude ourselves most often. We are building an aircraft for 20 years. Removing corruption for 67 years. Proud of so called indian...origin ppl.

Yes I was on my hand-held device so couldn't see your flag in the browser. :)

Till now we had big mouth because we had a central regime who had no intentions to make India rise and take its place as a respectable nation among other countries. Things have drastically changed in the defence sector much to the disappointment of the centre-leftists and their agenda.

You're right that we have talked and done little since long. But now times has changed and hopefully will continue to change for even better.

The improvement of the political situation is not our headache. We have come forward with a hand of friendship (not subservience and no compromise on our territorial integrity). It is upto the other side to take this hand of friendship and restore 2000 years of peace and trust.

Xi and PM Modi are both from similar humble backgrounds. They are both aware of the struggle the poor people in both nations have. They know the kind of pain the people, farmers, kids, labourers etc will face if both the countries end up fighting each other; it will benefit only a common threat and make us industrially weak again. All the years of hard work will be gone which is why both leaders will do everything to stop any sort of conflict between the two nation.

They also have a very good idea about vested lobbies in both India and China who want to keep the enmity between the two countries for the sake of political masters elsewhere in certain countries of the west. Yes, both inside India and inside China.

Which is why they both are taking measures to curb the hostility between the two countries.

I hope the hawks on CCP's side understand that we are not wanting any conflict with them.

Railways are an important part of development and to give facilities to people in the borders, we need to have railroads big time there. Otherwise development won't be possible.

Hopefully in the coming years as both countries further modernize, this mutual distrust will fall off and governments will trust each other.

China and India back each other on climate change, WTO and G-20 so many times. There is no reason for confrontation elsewhere as well.
