KARACHI: An Indian prisoner who escaped from the Landhi Jail in February has been rearrested by the police.

The prisoner, Kishore Bhagwan Bahi, who ran away from the District Jail in Malir was rearrested from PIB Colony. Bahi was among the 54 Indian fishermen who had been arrested by the Maritime Security Agency for straying into Pakistan’s Exclusive Economic Zone. He was jailed on January 29 but escaped in February by climbing over a prison wall, which led to the suspension of three policemen.

PIB police handed Bahi over to Shah Latif police so that he could be sent to prison again. DSP Nasir Lodhi said that the accused revealed during initial interrogation that he was a drug addict.

“We had no idea who he was when we intercepted him during routine patrolling,” Lodhi explained. “Since he escaped the prison, he has lived on the roads and spent most of his time in search of drugs.” The officer said that a separate case has been registered against Bahi at the Shah Latif police station for his prison escape.
