the problem is that if he had got that 1 crore before the olympics for training, he would had got gold instead.

my point was a generalized one & not limited to narang, many Indian athletes fails to get the necessary financial support & lose out on medal count in olympics, we are not proactive in any field, look when there is a riot, a train accident or some other incident than govt. quickly dispatch funds for the relatives of the affected people, we don't think that if we had spent that amount earlier on security than we din't had to do that & also we had saved many lives. Same the case in sports as well.

Olympics 2012: India's first bronze winner Gagan Narang to be an IAS officer


Sports Minister Ajay Maken on Monday said Gagan Narang has qualified for the post of an IAS

officer after winning India's first bronze medal in the Olympic Men's 10m Air Rifle event.




"Any amount of reward to these veterans will be less than what they have done for the country," Maken told reporters.


Narang kept India in the hunt by finishing third with 598, a point behind world number 1 Niccolo Campriani of Italy and Romania's Moldoveanu Alin George who both shot an Olympic record-equalling 599 to stand first and second in the qualifying round at the Royal Artillery Barracks.


In the qualifying round, Narang, was bang on target from the beginning, scoring two successive 100s, but a 98 in the third series somewhat let him down.


The 29-year-old Hyderabadi, however kept his cool and fought his way back into the reckoning for the medal round with a perfect 100 in the fourth series and then clinched the spot as the third best performer by notching two more 100s in his last two rounds.


Narang, a two-time world record setter, had won four gold medals in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games and followed that up with two two silver in the Guangzhou Asian Games a month later.


Earlier, the Sports Minister had said said the Government of India will offer coaching jobs to its athletes who win medals at the 30th Olympic Games.


"The Government of India has decided to offer coaching jobs to all past and present medal winners at the Olympics," Maken said while speaking at a reception hosted at India House in honour of the Indian Olympic Team.


Maken hoped the announcement would motivate the 81-strong Indian contingent to perform well "so that they are assured of a job for life."


Initially, they would get pay-scales equivalent to an Assistant Commissioner of Police and they would also get quick promotions based on their performance.


"In India, there is so much of excitement and expectation from the Olympic contingent. For the first time, India is represented by 81-strong contingent. This is the biggest reason for such expectations. Last time the Indian contingent was 56-member strong," he said.


He said the government had spent about Rs 200 crore during the last one year for training the athletes.

Sumit should have used a bit of defense as well.. The other guy was hiding behind the gloves in all the rounds..
