Navy would have its dedicated satellite, 2 Aircraft Carriers with full air capacity-MiG 29K's, 2 Nuclear submarines apart from substantially increasing its troop lift and land capability-they are really going big with LPD's!

A collaboration with South Korea will be very good ..Lets wait for some time and see how it goes..

The coming year will see a strategic meeting between us and South Koreans. I have a feeling it will definitely include marine industry big time whether civilian or military. South Korean shipyards are known for their technology as well as speed. I think our companies especially private firms could take the advantage of this and push the government politically by more aggressively demanding a share of defence pie.

Instead of building merchants, container and tankers ships which would bring the much need foreign currency, India is concentrating in building only war ships with the assistance of Russia (for the design and architecture and Brahmos), Israel (for the Barak system), US (for the anti ship and battle mgnt system like harpoon) and from EU (for the marine radar system). All the these war ships would bring nothing economically for India, only serving the geopolitics and strategy of the West which is to counter China. All these Indian warships cannot even efficiently counter the threat of somali pirates using samll guns and fishing boats.
On the other hand China is the World NO 1 ship building having surpassed Korea and Japan, China is now building the largest container and tanker ships for MSC, COSCO and Maersk bringing foreign currency to China.

India has a very rich maritime history and its ship building capabilities is a result of that. The Navy is ages ahead of the Amry and the Air force in terms of implementation and execution of new technology.
