Indian Navy issues RFI for CIWS

The Indian Navy issued an RFI for the procurement of 20/30 mm Close in Weapon System on April 9. The goal is to procure approx twenty five 20-30 mm CIWS with the following subsytems -
  1. A surveillance-cum-tracking radar
  2. An Electro Optical (EO) system
  3. Integrated SAM system
  4. A 20-30 mm caliber gun alongwithgun control system
Major requirements sought in the RFI include -
  1. Ability to search & track both sea & air targets over a 360° arc
  2. Ability to target sea-skimming missiles
  3. Fast switch ON capability
  4. Built in Camera & Thermal Imager
  5. Direct interface with ship's combat management system
Last date to respond is 30th May. For foreign vendors, the usual offset requirements apply.

Likely these CIWS systems are meant for the Vikramaditya carrier & the new Project 15A destroyers.

They shouldn't have included the 20mm calibre in the RFI.The 30mm rounds pack substantially greater punch but more importantly,OFB already has a well-established production line for various types of 30mm ordinances.

What are the options?

Considering the RFI requirements :-

1. Phalanx CIWS along with the 11-cell SeaRAM SAM System and 20mm autocannon

2.AK630-M with the 30mm cannon along with 9A4172 Vikhr SAM system

3.Kashtan/Kashtan-M with the 30mm cannon and the 9M311-K and 9M311-E SAM Systems..

Goalkeeper however lacks an integrated SAM System with gun based system

Arent they a bit late to start looking for CIWS for the P15As and thee Vikramaditya?

Well Viky was delivered without a CIWS system on board....and the Indian Navy didn't want the Kashtan to be installed because they wanted to install a new CIWS via open competition

Okay, but still.... its not that the Navy knew it only since a couple of weeks that they want another system on board the Viki.

They want a 20mm CIWS along with a 30mm CIWS system for the Carrier thats what an official said...!!
Well for the P15-A it is ok...not significantly late

Palma/Palash system, which has twin 30mm gatlings and Sosna-R

I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to couple Barak 1 into the Goalkeeper system. After all, Venezuela land forces use 40mm cannon in combination with VL Barak (both towed) and FLycatcher fire control system (from which the fire control of Goalkeeper is a derivative)
Venezuela will buy the Flycatcher - 10/21/1998 - Flight Global

4 P15B (2 systems each), 7 P17A (2 systems each), 1 IAC (3 systems) > 8+14+3=25

Vikhr-k? Doesn't that use an antitank missile? AT-16 Scallion?
