Indian Muslims protest harassment by cops

Indian police have been blamed by the community for torturing Muslims.

Indian Muslims Thursday held a mass demonstration in the Indian capital New Delhi to protest against harassment of Muslims by security forces, reports BBC.

Most of them arrived in Delhi on Thursday morning in a special train.

The train traveled from Azamgarh in northern Uttar Pradesh state and picked up more passengers en route to Delhi.

The organisers are also seeking a meeting with the interior minister.

Indian police have been blamed by the community for torturing Muslims.

Security agencies, for example, have arrested many people from Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh in the past two years - all as suspects in different attacks.

One of the protest organisers, Maulana Amir Rashadi, said Muslim youths were being falsely targeted as terrorists.

The protesters arrived in Delhi carrying banners which said: "Let the truth prevail, bring the innocents out of jail" and "Give us security, not tears and blood".

Amik Jamai, an activist and documentary filmmaker who joined the protest, said Muslims were suffering from insecurity of their lives.

In November, Human Rights Watch said police in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh should be prosecuted for torturing Muslims detained after bomb blasts last year.

The group warned of the risks of stigmatising and alienating "an entire community".

The state government had admitted that 21 men had been tortured and would each receive $600 in compensation.

A series of blasts in May and August 2007 killed nearly 60 people in the state capital, Hyderabad.

Indian Muslims in 'torture' rally

A train carrying Indian Muslims has arrived in the capital, Delhi, to protest against alleged harassment of Muslims by security forces, reports BBC.

The train, carrying hundreds of Muslims, traveled from Azamgarh in northern Uttar Pradesh state and picked up more passengers en route to Delhi.

The organisers are planning a mass demonstration, and seeking a meeting with the federal interior minister. Indian police have been blamed by the community for torturing Muslims.

Yes, The Police are freaking ******* crazy! But In my State Kerala They are not that Biased, I can be happy about it. I feel the Police, Be it Pakistani, Indian or BD need to be Cultured and taught what Policing is all about. Police feels they have all the power in the world! For that matter I feel the west has to be appreciated.

Indian Police doesnt keep communal mindset, Its just that, they feel the Urgency to get hold of a suspect and find the easy way out! Torture the hell outta anyone!

Mate... may be we are lucky to be subjects of kerala or even of South India. Since South was never occupied by any brutal agressor's like in the north, we dont have a hate culture. May be thats the reason why minorities are prospering in south than in north. The next thing is education, compared to the muslims or the minorities in north, South Indian muslims or minorities give more importance to education. The next is the social or cultural influence. You may be aware that in kerala if u dont have atleast a +2degree its difficult to get married..

In contrast, the North and Gujarat have had this history. Moreover the social fabric of the South is intact in comparison with the North, because they haven't been colonized and brutalized for such a long period of time.

Ignoring the alleged brutalization (incidentally the Mughal armies were filled with Hindu soldiers), the argument that the Muslims of modern day India were brutalized has zero merit, since that was over 400 years ago! Unless of course you are suggesting it's a psychological phenomenon of the BJP inciting Hindus to kill Muslims by manipulating history and suggesting Hindu generals of the Mughal armies killed and targeted Hindus in India.

Not an excuse. Its historical fact. Same way the historical enmity between Muslims and Christians can be traced back to the Crusades.

The effects of colonization are far-reaching and long-lasting. I am not interested in going into a long analysis of Muslim rule in India, but all I can say is that it left a large part of India in pretty bad shape.

Then the British of course, ruined it completely.

If you are trying to twist my words and claim that I am trying to justify the violence or prejudice, then your efforts are quite transparent.
