Indian Military Future Procurements

3.Talwar class Frigate - 3 commisioned , 2 under sea trials , 1 under construction . total 6
I think 3-4 modifies Talwar class are further on order for which Russia may chose Pipavav.

New things :
1) FICV (Future infantry combat vehicle) : 4 companies are fighting for the project to build atleast 2600 such vehicles for our armed forces. 4 companies are : tata, mahindra, l&t and OFB. Out of these 2 will be selected and these two will make prototypes which will compete and final one will be selected. The winner will be given 65-70 per cent of the order and the runner-up will build 30-35 per cent of the army’s requirement of FICVs.

2) IMRH (India's Multi Role Helicopter) : HAL is planning to build 400-1100 12+ ton helicopter with a crew of 29 getting ready by 2015. The bid is stuck, however, at the EoI stage, with four companies wondering what is happening. Companies that have responded to HAL’s invitation include Eurocopter (EC725 Caracal), Sikorsky (S-92A), Agusta-Westland (AW101) and Mil (Mi-17-IV). In the end Eurocopter and Mil were shortlisted but later it was scrapped and now its not sure whether hal is going solo or with a partner.

3) Javelin ATGM : The large size of the Indian order, upwards of 1000 missiles initially, with a strong possibility of follow-on orders could be worth upwards of $250 million initially.

4) Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Maritime Surveillance Unmanned Aircraft Systems for IN. It is already cleared by US Congress in 2009.

5) Harpoon block II for IN: The US government has notified that country's legislature for a "possible" sale of 21 Harpoon Block II anti-ship missile systems to India under a complete package worth $200 million.

6) Possible sale of Israels's Iron Dome and David's Sling. IA requested Israel for these systems and later in Nov. last year IAI said these two systems are offered to IA.

7) IN looking for 9 amphibious aircraft while IAF is looking for 6 amphibious aircraft. Possible contenders for the Indian air force's requirement include the Bombardier 415 and Beriev Be-200, as well as the Dornier Seaplane.

8) 6 tanker for IAF.

9) 159 dhruv on order (first 5 delivered during Aero India).

10) 10 mechanised craft to enable troop landings on beaches.

LOL nirvana?

Siddhartha Gautama would be rolling in this grave if he saw all these things.

India will reach "nirvana" when we obtain the perfect sense of security. And that, my friend, cannot be obtained by weapons alone.

Electronic gear, futuristic fatigues await Indian soildiers in 2011

Express India
Pune, March 8:

In a few years from now, skilled soldiers of the Indian Army will not just resort to guns to fight the enemy. The Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) is currently developing a futuristic Indian Small Arms system (F-INSAS), which will equip the soldiers with an advanced weapon system complete with efficient communication, position finding and tracking devices.
The futuristic soldier will also wear uniforms designed to clot oozing blood and boots that will protect his legs even if he steps on a landmine. According to ARDE’s Director Surendra Kumar, ARDE, with its emphasis on hardware-oriented projects now regards ‘armament electronics’ as an area of “highest priority”. Armament electronics refers to a specialised area involving integration of microelectronics, computers, sensors, artificial intelligence, control, image processing and target recognition, both in launch systems and target effectors.

“The F-INSAS is what the infantry soldier of the future will be equipped with. It will be a multi-function weapon system with several features integrated into its design. It would be able to fight at close quarters, tackle distant targets and monitor attacks coming from all directions and accordingly respond. It would also have detailed communication mechanisms. For example, the system would ensure that communication between the rifle and the soldier is done through electronic means,” said Kumar.

The miniaturized computer weapon system is likely to be ready in three years and ARDE has already developed two prototypes and is discussing them with the infantry. The soldier’s clothing, which is presently considered as a rudimentary requirement, is also set to go advanced with ARDE developing smart clothes and boots. “The weapons system will function on light-weight batteries that can be easily charged. Sensors fixed in the boots will be used to charge the batteries,” said Kumar.

Besides F-INSAS, ARDE is also developing warhead technology, precision guided munitions and a futuristic Infantry Combat Vehicle (ICV). “Control guided and precision guided munitions with higher accuracy and increased range is our plan for the future,” said Kumar. “Once completed, they will combine brain with brawn and act as force multipliers and enable us to deliver powerful weapon systems,” he added.

When asked when F-Insas would become a reality, he said "The good news could come as early as late 2010 or early 2011, but it would not be the "fully loaded version". However, parts of the programme like electronic geared uniform and positioning system would be ready to be inducted"

APART FROM MILITARY UPLIFT INDIA SHOULD ALSO USE ITS SOFT POWER AND GEOPOLITICAL TACTICS TO ESTABLISH SMOOTHER RELATIONS WITH ITS ENEMIES.

ARDE is building FICV, when this happened ??? Good to hear this....

Wow....i never thought it will be so quick. Electronic geared uniform and positioning system are the main things but i have one question, what is happening with the multi-caliber gun in FINSAS ??? Is the gun also included in this electronic geared uniform ???

F-Insas is a big programme...
We need to equip this to the second largest army

Yea!just spend more on military procurement while let the poor people die due to malnutrition, diseases and starvation.. :frown:

Its really amusing to see people enjoying here as india procuring big ticket phoren maal but forgot to mentiont 30%of total population living in slums ..

Need to provide a safe environment for other 70% to work hard so that the upliftment of rest 30% could be done.

oh!c'mon you people are just enjoying because india buying things from here there except a few ,everything is phoren filling corupt babus and general pocket . If we going by your theory those 30%will never come up . Rich are becoming richer and poor are always poor.
