INDIAN MEDIA: Low Quality, Obnoxious Reporting

Most of us DON'T bear all this. We stopped watching the worse ones years back, and the better ones months back. My daughter worked for five years, one and a half on Headlines Today, two years in The Hindu and one and a half years on CNN-IBN (when it was a halfway decent uncommitted channel). She finally couldn't take any more and went into academics (as a result of which, currently I am the least educated member of my family).
Yeah I think media is on steep slope downwards in subcontinent but it still influences the illiterate or uneducated masses who are unable to process and digest this information war. In democracy (the biggest flaw is that) the number of heads count whether there is a brain inside any of them is of no significance as far as the voting is concerned and that's where these local langauge channels have great leverage over masses in opinion making.
I think she did a good decision but the better would be if the educated people like her take initiatives on their own and offer quality alternatives to the masses in the local language to educate them.

I think the frothing in the corners of your mouth is not helping your rational side..
Consistency in your hatred.
And your mask of civility, which you don't give when debating certain topics.

But hey...please continue to expose yourself.
Apparently that a*****e is always right own his own. Don't fall for his propaganda he has political agenda. He don't give a damn about this country or its people at all. All their lot do whole day is project there is rising Hindu terror and there is a need to save minorities, to get votes.

.
Agreed. However, the situation in INDIAN MEDIA is much, much worse.
Pakistani guests are brutally insulted.
In one video by Arnab goswami ,he made fun of an old Pakistani general's english.(The old man was probably in his 80s or 90s so he couldn't speak properly)

Remember The Time A Pakistani General Took This Arnab Idiot To The Cleaners You Know Who I Am Talking About :lol::agree::agree:

There have been few people who have put Arnab in his place. unfortunately for all concerned, the number is not high enough.

Sticking to the topic..

Most of the news channels in India shows opinions (based on their political alliance) not news thus migrating from Journalism to Presstitutism

.
Many Indian news channels produce low quality content coupled with TRP whoring and political bias.

However lucky none of them have gone as low as targeting minorities or forging out fake wikileaks or parroting Govt propaganda.

Better stricter standards for news content and heavy fines for false/inaccurate news reporting can improve the situation.

Why is the op is posting a video from IBN7? Its once used to be a good media outlet now its just cr@p.
This is for the Indian members, which Indian news media outlet to do you guys follow
It is NDTV and India Today for me. They provides some credible news with quality analysis. All the others are just not worthy enough to watch.
Can you tell us the names of Indian channels you consider credible? I'm asking that because I don't watch any of them and very few selective programs from Pakistani media.
As I said above there are only few media houses in India that are trustworthy. However one must prefer tabloid news while looking for headlines, atleast they are free from bias to some extent.
These channels that you have quoted are certainly not pillars of Indian media. Zee News is known for its forgeries and manufacturing stories. IBN7 was bought up from an independent team by a businessman who supports the current government and has gone into a loop ever since. I have no views about ABP because I don't watch the media very much nowadays; it is a waste of time.

I also have no views about heaven and hell, being an atheist :P

However, does not watching qualify as putting something on the ignore list? If you ask around, even among the extremely limited number of Indians on this forum, you might get a few surprises. I have not watched the clip that you refer to because watching trash is not exactly my idea of a good way of spending time. Please feel free to watch whatever you want, but do think about things a little before jumping to conclusions.

This is an extremely stupid thread, both as far as the critics of Indian media are concerned, and as far as its defenders are concerned. You will forgive me if this is the last you see of me on this particular thread.
Rightly said Joe. Media houses and their news reports should be neutral and free of bias. That's what I have seen in NDTV and India Today although their hindi subsidiaries could be as sensational as everyone else is. But it also depends on the jurnos. While Arnab's primetime newshour could be watched whenever he is bashing a Pakistani guest or someone whom we hate it is generally a hypocrite at its best, then compare it to someone like Ravish Kumar of the NDTV India whos primetime at 9 is actually worth watching as it always does a good report followed by logical questioning.

what a load of crap. I know Indian are pissed off at these reporter who has nothing else but try to make third class conspiracy theories. the best solution is avoid these channels

My Hindi-speaking friends seem to think a lot of him.

As as a Pakistani, I'm rather happy, if that's their standard, we shouldn't worry too much..I think they provide us with free entertainment since there is real paucity of quality comedy shows..they are making fools of themselves not only in the world but also for sensible Indians and for them I really fret how do they bear all this.

The rest of the world has better things to do than comb through Indian TV channels to find something to laugh at, and judge India using that. The rest of the world is mature enough to know that with hundreds of TV channels, most will be pretty crappy. (Local TV and radio stations in the US make people cringe.) The rest of the world doesn't share Pakistan's obsession at searching for easy targets to ridicule.

Should I judge Americans by their behavior on Howard Stern show?

Yes most TV news shows are crappy, but what I find crappier is opening such a thread and gleefully mocking for pages, as if that makes Pakistanis superior by comparison. Sheer immaturity. I mean all the posts in general here, not yours in particular.

I'd love to read an informed critique of the media. What I see here is anything but. What I see on this thread is a display of the very immaturity that posters are attacking news channels for.

Reading your damn' post almost HURT, it was so close to the bone.....Brilliant.

I, too, like you, thought it a silly way to pass time, and like you, too, I wrote in. In hindsight, I wouldn't have. If somebody wants to comb through the silly stuff and take the mickey, let them. I say this as a confident Indian, as a citizen of a country that has done most things right, some accidentally, some through inertia, some through the muddled but well-meaning political leadership that we had (and - heck! might as well say it and get it out into the open - have), but mostly through the plain common sense that people exhibit, however little credit we give them for it.

I think the Keiths of Scotland got it right, centuries ago. Their motto is "They say! What say they? Let them say."

Most of us know that we have problem, But the question is what to be done???? These guys believe they cannot be touched, and if some one tries to currect them then the biggest weapon they have is "Freedom of Press"...... These days my family is happy, because they no longer have to fight with me and for watching news cannels ( in prime time), instead they could watc some sports or movies..... I look for the scrolling which would tell you important news of the day........

Correcting them is not the option. Competing is. Establish good schools for journalism, nurture young students in them, start new channels that provide quality instead of comedy, and let the market then force existing channels to up their game.

Advertise the new channel with a clear message, that it will provide serious news and analyses instead of shouting matches, and there will be plenty of people interested in viewing.

As I mentioned in the first para, it is not simply a question of starting a new channel - an entire ecosystem has to be created. Starting from good universities that breed good journalists. Just as you can't simply start hundreds of hospitals - to improve healthcare, you have to have good med schools training hundreds of doctors, nurses and paramedics, and set up quality hospitals and clinics. To raise an army, you need quality institutions, quality instructors, qualified students who are then trained well, quality equipment and weapons produced by quality manufacturers, and so on.

Private media in India started barely 20 years back. It was only during the Kargil war and after that private broadcasting grew exponentially. There are hundreds of news channels now, but no real ecosystem. It will take time and effort and money to create one. Just as (to give a military analogy) we are now trying to set up an ecosystem for defence manufacturing.

If the viewers make it clear that they have an appetite for quality, then broadcasters and media houses will take an interest and develop the necessary ecosystem. They just need to be convinced that it will be a profitable venture.

BTW, ironically the "Times of Islamabad" is producing bogus reports about the Indian ambassador raping Afghan students, and Pakistanis are buying it all hook, line and sinker, without even bothering to ask basic questions of credibility. And then some of them ridiculing Indian media here. Check this out, for the state of "journalism" in Pak:

https://defence.pk/threads/indian-d...arain-expelled-for-raping-afghan-girl.435957/

I'd like the opinion of all the Pakistanis so concerned about the Indian media:

@Tripoli @genghis khan 1 @Taimoor Khan @karakoram

@Joe Shearer @nair

Note that none of the Pakistanis commenting there even doubt the obvious BS. Do we need lessons on media studies from them? At our media doesn't manufacture such BS, and our viewers know to question and critique the media.

cheapest media ever

Any comments on the above gem from Pakistan? Care to hand that title to your own?

I dont care much about their media, as that is not going to affect us in our daily routines.......
