What's new

indian kid claims an unreleased pakistani song

you know imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so i don't really mind the only thing is I just have two suggestions for india:

1- ask permission first and credit the original artists
2-give the original artists a cut of any profits the indians make from their copies

well said, but plz dont generalise by addressing india on a whole. most of you here must understand that indian music industry is TOO big and such incidents are to be expected. but dont assume that entire india resorts to it or support it.

ok sorry I didn't mean to generalize the country/industry as a whole or say they support it I meant just the people who copy songs ( i'd say the same for pakistanis)

Anwar Malik nee Anu Malik hasn't composed best-selling music in the last couple of years.. and yes he hasn't only ripped Pakistani musicians work but also many of the foreign artists...

he's talking about the 90's etc

Now you are EXAGGERATING.

Salim-Sulaiman, Shankar,Ehsan&Loy, Allah Rakha Rahman, Vishal-Shekhar are some of top selling bollywood composers, their music is unique and unrivalled...

a r rehman is excellent and orignal as i heard many of his songs
and u have named 4 out of a huge industry like bollywood

You are generalizing...

India has dozens of regional movie industries producing thousands of songs annually, this is on top of independent albums.... the amount of songs produced daily by Indians/India, and I am not exaggerating , is more than annual output of Pakistan. Unfortunately Pakistanis are exposed to bollywood or at most Punjabi songs only.

Some songs could have been lifted from Pakistani songs, though some of the new songs which the member posted here are actually sung by the Pakistanis who wrote and sang them originally.. they are given full credit AFAIK... Atif Aslam, Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Abida Parveen, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Strings only sing in albums recorded and produced in India.

A R Rahman produces more albums in southern movie industries.
These 3 duos/person are producing most of the latest movie albums which you might have heard.

with all due respect sir, I disagree...The songs that i posted were all copied...and not influenced and they didnt gave credit to pakistanis either...all the indian singers or music directors claim them their "self composed".

AnD Secondly, What exactly do u know about Pakistani Music...dude pakistan has one of the best underground music scene in the world.....i am trying to find that article for you about that by a foreign music critic....

For the heavans sake..pakistan is not just only about Mullahs and Molviees...

and for that matter Pop/Rock music indusrty in Pakistan is much developed and more sophisticated than india...who doesnt really have much other than bollywood.

What about giving royalty and actually seeking the PERMISSION to use their tunes?

If this was any other country, the entire Indian Music industry would have been sued many times over.

I didn't go through the videos but what you are saying is most likely correct. The number of songs copied by Indians to the total ratio of songs composed in India is minuscule.

don't bother, I am not interested in Pak underground music scene.

For the heavans sake..pakistan is not just only about Mullahs and Molviees...

I didn't imply this even remotely. I named bands which possibly are unheard of by most Pakistanis in my previous post.

No argument/proof to support your claims ?
Bollywood caters to less than a third of India btw.

Anu Malik is indeed Chor number 1. But the guy has talent also. Many of his original compositions have been quite brilliant.
Most recently, his work on Omkara was fantastic.

The thing is that the top composers are under so much pressure to churn out tunes, that they often lift existing tunes if they cannot come up with something original.

This isn't something which is restricted to the Indian film industry. In the west, if one artist copies an older song, it is called a "cover version".

However, Indian composers often didn't acknowledge the original composers or pay royalty, which was possible in the pre-internet era, but not these days, when lifted tunes get caught out quickly.

Lol he will grow up to become Anu Malik. One of India's popular Indian composer who appears on shows like Indian Idol as a judge, has only copied Pakistani music his entire life and passed it on as his. Before the internet got so mainstream he got away with it a lot.

Half of India's music is ripped off of Pakistani music.

which era are you talking about ?
recently many Pakistani singers are coming to Indian shores to sing, sell their hit compositions etc.

If this was any other country, the entire Indian Music industry would havwe been sued many times over.

Not necessarily. Piracy is a bigger menace though.

But that does not justifies song lifting...or does it?

Well the bands u named are all well known to the music lovers in Pakistan.

Just do some research..or google it..:enjoy:

just spend some time and look for the videos that have been posted....u'll come to know what he is talking about.

Hardly. As someone pointed out, India probably produces more music in a day than Pakistan does in a year.

agreed...but whats the point? quality or quantity?

india produces more movies than hollywood.....and thats due to the population size.....

and btw....i would rather go for quality than quantity...anyday....

.
Indian movies beat Pakistani ones in both quality and quantity.

Same for music. Sure, Pakistani has had its share of brilliant composers and bands over the years, but the Indian music scene is far more developed.

If you're comparing with hollywood, then true, Indian movies are of lower standards. But standards can improve and they are already improving quickly.

well we are not talking about movies here....indian movies are the better ones though....

But when it comes to music.....we need to undertand thhat the music pakistani bands...specifically rock bands, are making is not for indians...who are not much into rock....

Youth in pakistan these days is no more a fan of filmy music....instead they like rock, pop sufi....and stuff...so u cant compare indian film music with pakistan's rock scene.

havent heard anythink like this in indian mainstream music: though its a patriotic song...but u'll have a fair idea about what is it all about.
