Ordos, China: In an embarrassing turn of events for the Indian hockey team, many of its players have been left without proper shoes ahead of the much-anticipated Asian Champions Trophy (ACT) final against Pakistan.

The shortage of proper turf shoes has meant that several members of the Indian squad have played in the ACT with training shoes, which is not only severely detrimental to the performance of the players but also poses injury risks.

Manjit Kullu, the left half back of the team, has been playing with warm-up shoes in the tournament after his only pair of hockey turf shoes had split into two. The other Indian player who is without turf shoes is Harpreet Singh.

Compared to their compatriots in the national cricket team, the average salary of the hockey player is not much and sources in the Indian team have revealed that the shoes provided by the Sports Authority of India are hardly anything to boast about.

This is sad.

Its so bad that in South Asia we give so much importance to cricket/cricketers, yet neglect other sports and athletes.

. . .
This happened with football team ones too.

Funny that Hockey is actually our national sport.

. . .
the sports minister is to be blamed for this , why blame cricket or cricketers , hockey is not such a poor game that we can't even provide proper shoes for our hockey players , many people specially in punjab and haryana do watch the game , it is the sport ministry and IHF which have made it a mess

.
Why blame Cricket? Why Sports minister? Atleast current sports minister is trying to break the hold of the corrupt officials in different organisations. About hockey, we have now to organisations both claiming they are the legal one, which costs us the Champions Trophy. The bosses hardly have the time to bother about the shoes of the players. Government can not interfere too much in the activities of these organisation , as International body can suspend the concerned country for government intervention. But in case of India we have to do something drastic.

This is so shameful  Proper equipment is the very basic which any federation, the world over, provides for its players. Whats the point of hiring a foreign coach when the two boards are so negligent in their support of the players.

.
The Hockey players must go to other countries and play.their future in india is grim.:angry:

Government should send representatives to discuss with International Hockey Federation, make them aware about the conditions of both organisations in India, dismantele both and form a new organisation with former players and capable players in the organisations. Politicians, businessman and ex-bureaucrats have nothing to in the sports organisation. Same strategy should be follow in other sports too. These officials consider these organisation as their "Bap ka Jagir". No wonder nepotism, corruption, inefficiency are som much there.

The Government tried to dislodge the KPS Gill led jagirdom ...unfortunately our legal system was so convoluted that his lawyers were able to plug out loopholes in the Governments directive and create an impasse . It's one of the pitfalls of a functioning democratic setup .

The GOI should have made that rule about Officials continuing at the helm for a certain number of years , mandatory for all the Olympic sports federations. The KPS Gill problem was left to fester for a long time.

. .
Best weay to go ahead is to discuss with the International organisations and established new organisations for respective sports, making older organisations meaningless. If world bodies dont acknowledge them, what Court and lawyers will do..........

Hockey India was a Government backed organization . But then the Government is restrained by the Supreme Court from making Indian Hockey Federation defunct , and the case is now stuck amidst many others in the archives of our inefficient judiciary. Best way I think is to somehow persuade KPS Gill to concede and stop pursuing the matter any further but that man has a GIANT EGO and has always placed his ego above the betterment of the Game while running the administration.

FIH 's official policy is to hold consultations with only one official body and I fear they might resort to drastic measures as suspend India from the FIH unless the mess is resolved soon.
