Indian bases to open doors to US warships, planes

India as an independent power would have been a true competitor, an American pawn on the other hand is just business as usual.
this is not a military alliance, not like a treaty alliance in the sense of NATO, and their deals with the RoK and with Japan.

certainly not one that would compromise our autonomy in foreign policy, and most definitely not one where it amounts to vassalage, like the Baltic NATO states, for example.

the Indian military will not involve itself in the SCS, mtcr compliant Brahmos batteries to the Viets is the max extent it'll go (though subject to change if China ups it's Pak play)

watch the statements (and read the fineprint) and take everything else into consideration before jumping for joy

the political situation in India is such that the 'commie' left love Russia and hate the US, and the nationalist right love India and are wary of the US, there is also an element of crony capitalist love (right wing) with their counterparts in the US lol, but overall we're very pragmatic, so rest assured, friend, there will be no US vassalage and no antagonizing you lot to serve Washington, ever.

.
I hope one day India would get an offer from US to merge with it.

Just think about the possibilities of Oldest Democracy and the only Super power on the planet acquiring the oldest civilization and the biggest democracy.

The things both bring to the table are truly complimentary.

This would be truly be an amazing acquisition by the US.

wtf did I just read... you actually want US to occupy India?
if it was sarcasm, well done my good sir. :)
on topic: I would not want such a deal, US never respects sovereignty of its allies.

.
If India & China were sane countries, they'd have worked together to keep the Yakees out of this region. I guess some lessons will never be learned..

India might not directly involve itself in the SCS, but this agreement widens American capability to operate in the area at the least.

In that respect, India is already indirectly involving itself in the dispute, by giving the US room to expand its own presence in the SCS.

Believe me, no one here wants or is even thinking of merging with/occupying India, that's just way out of left field, and I was surprised by his post too.

the US does respect the soveriegnty of its allies though, everything in an ally country is done with the host government's consent or within the lines of the agreement.

That said, all countries try to push their own interests, and we will push hard to obtain that consent. That isn't unique to the US, our allies do it too. Good example is Libya, that was pushed for hard by France and the UK.

Then there is Eastern Europe, especially Poland.

Example of respecting host government decision that clashes would be the Philippines.

The US also has maritime territory disputes with Canada, but we have not resorted to force to resolve them.

Seems like your desperation is forcing you to change the topic.

China is a developing country, we have our own plans in our own time frames.

America the "global superpower" on the other hand is running away crying from developing countries. Do you think Rome would have done that? Or just the magical USA? :azn:

It is frankly the most pathetic thing I've seen in recent world history. The Native Americans deserve their land back.

Meanwhile we continue to build in the SCS... while a certain global policeman continues crying about it. Thanks for the Scarborough shoal, the Paracel islands, and the rest of the SCS. Global policeman. :D

@Chinese Dragon, what are your Russian friends thinking about this development? All these years Russia has been arming a country which has now clearly sided with the US against the Sino-Russian block. I see it as a big failure of the Russian leaders, they never really foresaw this could happen. After the delivery of the S-400 perhaps they should supply the S-500 even before the Russian armed forces get it. This would really impress their indian friends.

the weaker power will invite yankees, just like pakistan does in case of indo-pak dispute... India is basically inviting a bigger bully to check a smaller bully china.

I'm all for more naval co-operation but only as long as it stays in the IOR, the SCS is not our problem.

India/China are not going to war for the US, it's just not going to happen, the US will not go to war with Russia or China either.

look at UK or japan or Philippines.. these are nearly vassal states of USA. I am ok with US pushing for her interest(and India too doing same) but once we are allies, the equation changes. We become a junior partner, like the UK, its not equal anymore, its subservience to USA.
