this is not a military alliance, not like a treaty alliance in the sense of NATO, and their deals with the RoK and with Japan.India as an independent power would have been a true competitor, an American pawn on the other hand is just business as usual.
certainly not one that would compromise our autonomy in foreign policy, and most definitely not one where it amounts to vassalage, like the Baltic NATO states, for example.
the Indian military will not involve itself in the SCS, mtcr compliant Brahmos batteries to the Viets is the max extent it'll go (though subject to change if China ups it's Pak play)
watch the statements (and read the fineprint) and take everything else into consideration before jumping for joy
the political situation in India is such that the 'commie' left love Russia and hate the US, and the nationalist right love India and are wary of the US, there is also an element of crony capitalist love (right wing) with their counterparts in the US lol, but overall we're very pragmatic, so rest assured, friend, there will be no US vassalage and no antagonizing you lot to serve Washington, ever.
