J&K terror attack: Slain terrorists carried medicines, eatables from Pakistan

SRINAGAR: Six terrorists killed in the failed attempt to storm an Army base in Uri near the Line of Control (LoC) carried medicines and foodstuff manufactured in Pakistan besides a huge quantity of arms and ammunition, dry fruits and other eatables.

Intelligence officers, who examined the belongings of the dead Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists, said their bags contained medicines, including Vicks VapoRub and joint pain ointments with "Made in Pakistan" markings besides rotis as provision to tide over few days.

An Army officer said identity cards recovered from the bearded terrorists, who wore salwar kameez and combat jackets, proved their Pakistani identity. The cards had their code names.

Sources said the six had infiltrated from Chakoti in Azad Kashmir, around 30km away, earlier this week after crossing a deep bushy gorge. They had undergone over four-month training in different LeT camps and taken a course called Daura-e-Sufa for 21 days.
The lone survivor from the 2008 Mumbai attacks, Ajmal Kasab, had spoken of a similar training regime, which included 'Daura-e-Khaas' at Muridke near Lahore. The training was given under the supervision of Pakistani military officers and Hafiz Saeed, Kasab had told his interrogators.
The intelligence sources claimed the fidayeen had reached Uri at 3am, evading check posts all along the route from the LoC.
Hizb-ul-Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin separately said the Uri attack proved "Indian military might cannot suppress our resolve".
He paid tributes to the slain terrorists saying "their sacrifices would not be wasted" and called for a complete strike to protest Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Srinagar visit.
"This will give message to the world that people are striving for their birth right and will continue to tread the resistance path," he said in an emailed statement to local Kashmir News Agency.
