Military cannot be seen as causing the problems which you mentioned.

I agree but ex-military people can be retrained to look inwards rather than outwards. Solve the problems within the country first before looking at some outward enemy.

In-case you forgot military also provides employment to 1.2 million men who mostly come from rural areas the general soldiers not including the Officer class . These soldiers are mostly from single income households so nearly 1.3 million families sustained.

If they can be trained as soldiers why can't they be trained as farmers, shopkeepers etc ??

India needs an entirely new sector of agriculture which involves Urban Farming and Vertical Farming. All those would-be soldiers can be trained as progressive farmers.

The military generates employment like 25,000 SMEs are are directly and indirectly supply to military they are part of the value chain which creates 1000s of jobs .

Those SMEs exist because of an existing system. They will remain, although in reduced amount, for a downsized military. The remaining SMEs can refocus on a changed economy. Jobs will remain, only the focus will change partly.

India already has 450 million involved in farming related activities , most of these soldiers are from farming background and will return to that after retirement.

Even if we reduce soldiers the military budget will be untouched , It is only 1.8% of the GDP which will probably not reduce but will increase in the future .
I am all for reducing the number of soldiers and increase in mechanization of our forces .

They don't just supply the military but other industries too , they are all vertically integrated in the supply chain. Increase in self reliance will be good for them and will create far more jobs.
