Indian Army gets first batch of Sig 716 assault rifles

Sig rifles manufactured in Switzerland are of the highest quality..... there is no doubt in that.
but Sig Sauer is a new entity based in hampshire , U.S .
it is yet to earn the same reputation. its products are notorious for stoppages and feeding issues.
Wrong.
Sig Sauer USA is far better in quality than Sig Sauer Switzerland. No wonder Sig Sauer USA profits rising and Sig Sauer Switzerland profits falling.

And the same rifle failed in Pakistans extensive months long trials.
And the same rifle performed far better than each and every other rifle from Europe and USA in Indian army's extensive year long tests.

Maybe they have.

Meet new rifles from POF.

Yeah they just developed a weapon & showed a Russian AK (which won the testing regime) with a Pakistani nomenclature for the heck of it.

Ah oh, so much for your abominations like “Insas” variants and multi caliber rifle lol. Make in india

According to the sources, the first lot of 10,000 SiG 716 assault rifles has arrived in India and has been sent to the Northern Command for use on LoC and in counter-terrorism operations.

In February this year, India had signed a contract for procurement of 72,400 assault rifles from the US-based (it was originally German) company Sig Sauer.

All of the 72,400 rifles were scheduled to be delivered within 12 months of the date of signing of the contract.

The deal was for 72,400 rifles and worth around Rs 700 crore under the fast-track procurement (FTP) route.

According to Sig Sauer's website, the company is a "New Hampshire-based weapons systems provider leading the industry in American innovation, ingenuity, and manufacturing".

This is a rifle that will be used by an infantry soldier and a big move at infantry modernization.

The Indian armed forces are presently equipped with 5.56*45 mm INSAS Rifle. These INSAS rifles will be replaced with 7.62*51 mm assault rifle which according to defence ministry is compact, robust, modern in technology and simple to maintain in field conditions.

Of the 72 400 rifles, Indian army will get 66400, Indian Navy will get 2000, the Indian air force will get 4000.

The development comes even as India is engaging with the US for its defence needs.

Since 2008, the US has bagged more than $18 billion in arms contracts from India.

These including the C-17 Globemaster and C-130J transport planes, P-8 (I) maritime reconnaissance aircraft, M777 light-weight howitzer, Harpoon missiles and Apache and Chinook helicopters.

The development comes days after, United States state department has approved sale of Two Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures (LAIRCM) Self Protection Suites (SPS) for Boeing aircraft to be used in India.

So 1.4 billion indians can't make anything of the quality that less than 83 million Germans make??????........:rofl::rofl:......a truely inferior race with a low IQ as has been scientifically proven:

That's your personal opinion which has Zero value in any world body or organization.

Yeah they just developed a weapon & showed a Russian AK (which won the testing regime) with a Pakistani nomenclature for the heck of it.
Every possibility is there.

Wrong.
Sig Sauer USA is far better in quality than Sig Sauer Switzerland. No wonder Sig Sauer USA profits rising and Sig Sauer Switzerland profits falling.
i guess you do not have a gunsmithing culture in india........
swiss are very famous for making quality rifles ...... the problem is they can not export rifles directly to US due to US laws, which is why they created sig sauer....... since US is one of the largest gun markets in the world i.e worth 5+ billion dollars ....... hence their profits rising.....
and dont mock the swiss in gunsmithing ........... nobody does......

And the same rifle performed far better than each and every other rifle from Europe and USA in Indian army's extensive year long tests.
well then your standards must be really low.......
sig is known for bribing their way into military contracts .....
not just Indians but even american ones too .....
just look at current procurements of sig p230 and sig mpx pdw .......
even we had a scandal with CZ .......
an AR pattern rifle while giving great accuracy is pussycat when it comes to reliability...... sure piston on Sig sauer 716 will help but its an inherent design flaw in AR pattern rifles....
a source on recent trials of Indian army would be appreciated because as far as i know .....no such thing happened and even if happened ..... i doubt it would be that comprehensive..... given the massive propaganda India does on its defence procurements ,,, its a surprise no big news of rifle testing came out....

Missiles tests and procurement of weapons supported by information blockade in Kashmir shows that india is planning a limited war.

The words such as "to fight Militants and Pakistan Army" describes their helplessness in past and now needs more weapons.

So these images just dropped. Those are Indian Army soldiers at the Infantry School in central India with their brand new U.S. built SIG716 G2 Patrol assault/battlefield rifles. Seen here on Livefist for the first time since the new firearms began arriving in December, maker Sig Sauer Inc. will complete deliveries of 72,400 of these by the end of this year.

The Indian Army ordered the SIG716 last February as part of a wider, urgent, effort to bring new assault weapons into its infantry units quickly, while sidestepping the traditional curse of piecemeal, stopgap purchases of the past. As Livefist has reported, the new SIG716 rifles are part of a two-pronged procurement drive. While these rifles will be sent to priority units deployed in counter-insurgency and frontier anti-terror roles, a requirement of nearly 700,000 new assault rifles for regular infantry units will be met by the Kalashnikov AK-203. After some delays, and with paperwork in place, an order for the AK-203 could finally come this year. The rifles are to be manufactured in country at a joint venture facility of Kalashnikov and India’s Ordnance Factor Board at Korwa in U.P.’s Amethi.

The SIG716 G2 Patrol is an enhanced assault rifle featuring a 16-inch barrel, M-LOK handguard, and a 6-position telescoping stock. The weapons are being supplied to the Indian Army from Sig Sauer’s facility in New Hampsire, U.S.

“The global importance of this contract for SIG SAUER is far reaching based on the size, location, and economic strength of India in the global market,” says Ron Cohen, President and CEO, SIG SAUER, Inc. “We are very proud, and honored that the SIG716 was chosen for use by the fighting forces of the Indian Army, and we are looking forward to developing a strong partnership with India’s Ministry of Defense.”

“This [was] the first large firearms procurement of the Indian Government in decades, and the explicit mission for this tender was to modernize the infantry troopers of the Indian Army with the best rifle available,” said Cohen last February. “We competed in an open tender with small arms manufacturers from around the world. The SIG716 rifle underwent a comprehensive and exhaustive testing and evaluation process where it outperformed the competition, and was ultimately chosen, and met all the criteria, as the best rifle to modernize the Indian Army.”

The SIG716 isn’t the only American-built firearm in the Army’s inventory. The Para Special Forces have inducted unspecified numbers of the M4A1 carbine for years and have recently begun receiving Barrett M95 purpose built sniper rifles (in addition to the Italian Victrix Minerva Scorpio TGT.) The Indian government is also expected to conclude a delayed order for 93,385 CAR816 carbines from UAE firm Caracal this year.

Way too big in size. This massive size is killing the purpose. From size I mean way too long
