LUH looks amazing. Somewhere I read they are working on a light attack version of this, as a recon platform.

IAI and Godrej making crashworthy seats for helicopters and fixed wing airplanes

Apparently they're going to be making ejection seats as well in the future.

IAF Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari is flying the lead Tejas Mk1 fighter as part of the Gurukul formation

This formation is named 'Gurukul' since all these airplanes are trainers and impart training to pupil pilots. HTT-40, Hawk, HJT-36 Sitara and the Tejas trainer.

I didn't see a separate Aero India thread. Anyway I have no preference per se.

I think its better to to post Aero India related posts in the dedicated thread. Link is given below.

How many years after RPF?

For the MRFA? That'll be at a very optimistic assessment, at least 5 years after the RFP is out.

2 years for the selection, contract signature, etc. (and that is a very optimistic assumption given how our procurement works) and 3 years after that for the first fighter to be delivered to IAF from the OEM's facilities.

Hindustan Aeronautics to supply 70 HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft to IAF for over ₹6,828 cr

On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet approved the acquisition of 70 HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft from Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) for a whopping ₹6,828.36 crore. The said aircraft will be supplied to Indian Air Force over a period of six years. HAL would engage Indian private industry, including MSMEs, in its supply chain.

As per Defence Ministry, the HTT-40 is a turbo-prop aircraft and is designed to have good low-speed handling qualities and provide better training effectiveness. This fully aerobatic tandem seat turbo trainer has an air-conditioned cockpit, modern avionics, hot re-fuelling, running change over, and zero-zero ejection seats.

The aircraft contains approximately 56% indigenous content which will progressively increase to over 60% through indigenisation of major components and subsystems.

Further, the aircraft is expected to meet the shortage of basic trainer aircraft of IAF for the training of newly inducted pilots. The procurement will include associated equipment and training aids including simulators.

Being an indigenous solution, the Aircraft is configurable for upgrades to incorporate the futuristic requirements of the Indian Armed Forces, the ministry statement said.

According to the ministry, the procurement has the potential to provide direct employment to approximately 1,500 personnel and indirect employment for up to 3,000 people spread over more than 100 MSMEs.

Moreover, the acquisition of the HTT-40 provides a fillip to the Indian Aerospace Defence ecosystem and boosts efforts towards ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.

Finally the contract is done!

6 years to deliver 70 HTT-40s. The first couple of years there will be much smaller deliveries which will then scale up.

This cost includes ancillary equipment on the ground for repair and maintenance plus and simulators.
