India wields oil 'weapon' to cut dependence on Saudi Arabia

Lol. He can murder Kagoshhi or anyone else of his country. How does it matter to USA or Turkey? Well let him try to kill an American and shrug it off. Sometimes keeping quiet is a sign of smartness.
Exactly dude, try that and you might face little humiliation in future.

@Irfan Baloch
Sir don't you think that this move has a background of US squeezing MBS via India. And if US is behind this move, then India would have upper hand as KSA has lost friends in the world.
@rent4country Ideally diversifying your suppliers is the right approach to ensure minimum blackmailing, but i believe it is more expensive to go for multiple suppliers which add to risks in supply and costs as well.

how is it more expensive when you get cheaper oil and discounts?

they've done better deals in the past from non OPEC nations ...

from the article "In past years, refiners have jointly negotiated oil deals with sanctions-hit Iran, which offered free shipping here and price discounts, and now plan to do the same with other producers."

P.S . addressing another comment you made that this may be some US-involved squeeze.
NOPE, it is plain ole economics. India (and other countries) have to pay more for oil because of what OPEC did recently.

India is the 3rd largest Buyer of oil in the world after China & USA i believe it could be hundred of billions of dollars. ITS not a few billion dollars.

No business in the world annoys its biggest buyers.

Chest thumbiig pakistan will not understand for every dollar you spend on oil india spends $10 prehaps $15

India has options

India does business well

They will get their way

Also they will win the S400 waiver as well

India has clout AND the indians know it

Refineries are calibrated for the type of crude, therefore its not that easy to switch suppliers as refineries will have to be modified to the new crude oil.

bad move by India.
dont come in the crosshair of the crown prince.

he doesn't take prisoners.

Saudis have much more clout than Indians beyond the monetary denominations.

Prince Suleman has just added India to the naughty list
He can bully small countries like Pakistan. But with India, which is his third largest oil buyer, he'll tread carefully. But let's just wait and see.
Guess which country hosts saudis strategic oil reserves?

Never underestimate a baniya.

India should focus on solar and wind. They have a huge coastline and a large public transport network. Electrify all buses, trains, rickshaws and taxis.

India is increasingly dependent on foreign oil. Bjp in 2015 were saying modi will increase domestic production, but like many promises failed to deliver.

Article is comfort for Indian egos, reality is different.

Prince is fat enough to NOT tread carefully.
prince just shrugged away Turkish and American complaints over the killing of a journalist.
you are right he is fat enough not to care how much India buys from him. he also employs a large number of Indians in his country and can throw them out just for the heck of it.

You are comparing desperate Iran with free markets sellers, not a right analogy to make. Shipping from Africa will cost you more. IFF you get cheaper landed cost from other countries, then yes indeed this would be good for India.

Friends aren't bullied, KSA and Pakistan have brotherly relationships. India is being short sighted as usual as it means China will get more cheap oil. The real reason for India to cut shipments of oil is because of the poor demand due to the poor economy. India's economy is crashing let's see what the fallout will be: internal disorder, war, recession ? etc.

Why saudi with such small population consume so much oil? They treat oil as water?
Who cares, oil will loose it charm in coming days and saudis themselves will advocate for democracy with there looted money stashed away in US. Saudi people hate these Royals so much that even to protect themselves they are dependent on Pakistani bodyguards..
All those who fell Saudi can overpower India in any which way, start praying harder
