Dalai Lama Lesson

India shows the world how to stand firm with China.
As President Obama prepares for his trip to Beijing next month, he'd be wise to cast an eye toward New Delhi, where Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is showing the rest of the world how to deal with Beijing when it gets into a bullying mood.

At issue is the Dalai Lama's proposed trip next month to visit Tibetan Buddhist believers in Arunachal Pradesh, a province governed by India but claimed by China since the 1962 border war. Chinese spokesperson Ma Zhaoxu said last week the trip "further exposed the anti-China and separatist nature of the Dalai clique."

But India stood firm. During a regional summit over the weekend Prime Minister Manmohan Singh says he "explained to Premier Wen [Jiabao] that the Dalai Lama is our honored guest; he is a religious leader." The prime minister went on to imply that the Dalai Lama was free to travel where he pleased, so long as he did not engage in politics.

This contrasts with Mr. Obama's decision not to meet with the Dalai Lama earlier this month. His cave-in broke Presidential precedent and emboldened Beijing to step up anti-Dalai Lama rhetoric, particularly in—guess where—India, which has hosted Tibet's government-in-exile for more than 50 years.

Mr. Singh will face further China tests soon, given the other conflicts with his northern neighbor. China and India still dispute their 2,200-mile long border, and Indian defense officials say that Chinese incursions into Indian territory are on the rise. The two also have disputes over Kashmir and Nepal.

Those irritants are more reason for Mr. Singh to stand firm on the principles for which India stands—the very same principles of democracy and freedom that America holds. Therein lies a lesson for Mr. Obama's China diplomacy as well.

China Accuses Dalai Lama For Trying To Hamper Sino-Indian Relationship

In a subtle shift of stance, China has accused Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama of trying to "wreck" Sino-Indian ties by his proposed visit to Arunachal Pradesh, but refrained from condemning New Delhi for allowing the trip.

The Dalai Lama is planning to visit the north-eastern Indian state, over which Beijing claims sovereignty, Nov 8. China had asked India to restrict this trip of the spiritual leader.s

China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu Tuesday flayed the Dalai Lama for his "separatist" activities.

"The Dalai Lama often lies and often engages in acts to sabotage China's relations with other countries," said Ma.

"I am confident that his scheme to wreck China's relations with the relevant country will come to nothing," he said.

"China's stance on the eastern section of the China-India border (Arunachal Pradesh) is consistent, and we firmly oppose the Dalai Lama's visit to the region," he said.

Ma went on to say that last month Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh had agreed to focus on promoting "healthy and stable relations".

The exiled Tibetan spiritual leader's planned Arunachal visit "further exposes the Dalai clique's anti-China and separatist nature," he said.

"We hope that each side will continue striving to make strides in that direction," said Ma.

A government source said in New Delhi: "We have made our position clear. The Dalai Lama, as prime minister has said, can go anywhere in India, provided he does not indulge in political activities."

These statements come from Ma just few days after Dalai Lama expressed his surprise about China criticizing his Arunachal visit. "I was surprised at China's criticism. If my visit creates problem, I am very sad, that's all," he had said.

Wen and Manmohan Singh met for formal talks on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in the Thai resort of Hua Hin Oct 24. They discussed the Dalai Lama's trip during a dinner hosted by the Thai prime minister.

A day after the meeting, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told journalists that the Dalai Lama is "an honoured guest" of India.

Manmohan Singh said he was not aware of the travel plans of the Dalai Lama, who has lived in India since fleeing his Tibetan homeland in 1959, but had explained to the Chinese leadership India's position.

"I explained to Premier Wen that the Dalai Lama is our honoured guest. He is a religious leader," Manmohan Singh said.

"(But) we do not allow Tibetan refugees to indulge in political activities. As a proof of that, last year we took resolute action at the time of Olympics when there were reports that some Tibetan refugees might disrupt (the Olympic torch relay)."

China's reiteration of its opposition to Dalai Lama's Arunachal Pradesh trip comes at a time when both countries are trying to keep relations on an even keel after mutual recriminations over a host of issues, including reported Chinese incursions, Beijing's repeated assertions of its claims over Arunachal Pradesh and China's plan for new projects in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

Old article why are you posting it now.

India does not use anyone Hon'ble Dalai Lama is our guest and in a free country like India he is free to visit or practice his religion.

I wish our government have lobbied for Tibet or killing of Muslims (Uighur) in China.

But the world is not fair, America and Europe talk about human rights but for commercial interest they have forget all this.

The same is with Arab states or Pakistan they make a hue and cry in the name of Muslims but kept a mum when China kills thousands of Muslims and secretly continuing to do so.

That is the world we live in what can we say more. :frown::frown:

At least 80 people have been killed in unrest following protests by Tibetans against Chinese rule, the Tibetan government in exile says.

The Dalai Lama called for an international inquiry into China's crackdown, accusing it of a "rule of terror" and "cultural genocide".

Chinese troops were out in force in Lhasa, Tibet's main city, on Sunday.

Hong Kong Cable TV reported that about 200 military vehicles, each carrying 40 to 60 armed soldiers, had driven into the city.

Loudspeakers broadcast messages, such as: "Discern between enemies and friends, maintain order."

China tightly restricts Western journalists' access to Tibet and it is sometimes extremely difficult to verify what is going on.

Bodies

The BBC has learned that troops in neighbouring Sichuan province have been recalled from leave and put on standby.

A 23-year-old Canadian student in Lhasa told AP: "The entire city is basically closed down."

The Chinese crackdown followed rioting on Friday, that erupted after a week of mainly peaceful protests.

The Chinese official news agency Xinhua says 10 people died on Friday, including business people it said were "burnt to death".

But the Tibetan government in exile later said at least 80 corpses had been counted, including those of 26 people killed on Saturday next to the Dratchi prison in Lhasa.

Other bodies were spotted near the Ramoche Buddhist temple, and near a Muslim mosque and a cathedral in Lhasa, said Tenzin Taklha, a senior aide to the Dalai Lama.

"These reports come from relatives, from our people inside and from contacts of our department of security. They have all been confirmed multiple times," he said.

Hundreds Of Armed Chinese March On Muslims

Mobs of Han Chinese wielding meat cleavers and clubs and groups of Muslim Uighur men beat people in the streets of the capital of China's Xinjiang region Tuesday. The government imposed a curfew as it tried to stem communal violence after a riot that killed at least 156 people.
The outbursts happened despite swarms of paramilitary and riot police enforcing a dragnet that state media said led to the arrest more than 1,400 participants in Sunday's riot, the worst ethnic violence in the often tense region in decades.

Elsewhere in the city Tuesday, about 200 people, mostly women in traditional headscarves, took to the streets in another neighborhood, wailing for the release of their sons and husbands in the crackdown and confronting lines of paramilitary police. The women said police came through their neighborhood Monday night and strip-searched men to check for cuts and other signs of fighting before hauling them away.

Hindu Fanatics are indeed pathetic. Not only do they MISLEAD WITH LIES, but have the gall to use a zionist-backed terror attack as "proof".

No wonder with an average IQ of 81, you readily prostitute yourselves to the White men and the Jewish White men.....
