India, US plan to join hands to counter Chinese influence in Africa

British have a long history of using demographics as a tool of colonialism. When Indians where brought to new colonial territories by British(as servants, contract labourer what have you), it created an instantly loyal population, that is reliant on the British for protection and thus creating a us vs them social dynamic, ensuring that Indians would do their best to help suppress local insurrection as they were often the first victims of unrest.

Interesting! Never saw it that way,

Ironical how this loyal alien population later became strong followers of Gandhi.

That happened in Hong Kong too, but in a different way.

In the early days, many of the "Policemen" in Hong Kong were Indians who were brought over from British India. So any minor outbreaks of unrest would be focused on the "visible face" of the colonists, while the British themselves huddled together out of sight.

There are still big concentrations of British people in places like Lantau island. In hindsight it was quite a clever policy.

The Americans are amateur at Imperialism compared to the British. Their biggest coup however is how no one remembers any of it. They've probably killed way more people than the Nazism but nobody nowadays really knows it.

Again you gotta give the British their due for being clever ruthless bastards.

Agreed. Sun Tzu would have loved them.

You can say many things about the British empire, but they were fantastic at administration.

They divert all negative attention away from themselves and hide in the shadows. They hire locals to administrate their territories, and generally take a hands-off approach.

America on the other hand just paints itself as a big "target" in the eyes of many people in the Middle East etc. Every Tom Dick and Harry over there knows who to blame for their problems.

Sub lord is over stating it but the British have a long history of using demographics as a tool of colonialism. Also by using Indians as a part of colonial policy, the British often shifted hate and focus off of them and on to Indians.

That was the modus operandi for the British. They would choose a group of people that is the easiest to manipulate.

The Brits are from an island 5/6 thousand miles away. Manipulation and/or divide and rule is how they did it with very few white boots on the ground.

and that's how they controlled an entire country with 99.9% of the population with 0.1%.

Can't help admire them, even if i abominate them.

Well put and I personally still want to see them return the loot they took from China, India, Greece, Egypt etc etc.

This is often brushed under the carpet. But

a. Hitler wanted to create the Third Reich in the image of the British Empire. What the British did in Asia, he wanted to do in Europe.

b. The British INVENTED concentration camps - some of the food given to Indians in these camps was less than those given to inmates in Nazi concentration camps like Buchenwald.

c. They killed 3 million people in 1943 alone in Bengal through the man-made famine.

d. During British rule India had a famine every 4 years. Before British rule 1 every 200. And after independence - 0. There were droughts and severe ones but no famines.

I really hate our history books. Everything has been 'sanitized', from the British atrocities to the Central Asian invasions

^^ Agreed... but hate is something better not taught in our schools.

Mental slavery I tell ya. Everything western is associated with status, history and literature is written by the west, Hollywood is popular everywhere... Sigh.

Don't worry... I think India and China are in a way working towards it... (shifting economy... cough!)

You should hear the flimsy excuses they give for not returning artifacts like the Rosetta stone. They claim that because they gave the Rosetta historical significance by translating it, it belongs to them.

I guess legal ownership is a fuzzy concept for the brits.

As they say, possession is 9/10ths of the law... :azn:

That concept actually backfires spectacularly regarding territorial issues.
