Strengthening India-Brazil defence ties

New Delhi, Feb 8 (ANI): Brazilian Defence Minister Celso Amorim met with Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss strengthening of bilateral military ties.

India’s National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon also attended the meeting, which took place at Dr. Singh’s residence.

Both countries, which have large armies, are looking forward to reduce their technological dependence on Western nations.

Amorim and Manmohan Singh were expected to discuss scientific and technological cooperation in military hardware and software development.

The topic of naval cooperation with a focus on plans to build aircraft carriers and Scorpene-class submarines was also likely to be discussed.

Brazil and India are expected to increase exchanges between their respective military academies.

As major emerging economies, Brazil and India are both members of the BRICS group of nations, along with Russia, China and South Africa.

Amorim’s visit comes just weeks ahead of the fourth BRICS summit, to be hosted by New Delhi on March 29. (ANI)

BRICS is a great platform to bring the large emerging markets on to a common platform, there by increasing its influence in world politics.

now rafale is back in Brazilian mmrca after india selection

Rafale was always there in the contest. Three jets were shortlisted: Gripen IN, Rafale and F/A-18 Super Hornets.

The ultimate plan for Brazil is to buy upto 120 jets. That's a lot of money considering that each of these jets would be a force multiplier and reduce the need for having thousands of jets with just a few.

We had the most grueling selection for over 7 years and over 650 parameters tested for each jet type. Even if there was no corruption that we may assume, it would have taken at least 4-5 years to test 650 points on 6 jets.

Brazil would benefit big time from such a selection process because we also have a Brazil-like climate in some parts of India (humid, musty, hot and wet weather conditions).
