I did make a reference to that in my post, it should be some kind of a work permit that should be regulated & monitored by both governments. Additional revenue can flow to both government coffers, especially to BD for whom remmitances can actually show up in the white economy. India can get taxes(if applicable) but otherwise a small charge on the permit as well as the ability to both regulate the flow & especially, keep them out of citizen's list along with all the subsidies that may entail. The BD work permit holder will have risk elimination, a lawful existence without fear & the ability to make genuine full money transfers as well as to lead a life of respect.

Everybody wins, everybody benifits economically, nobody gets killed.

Land demarcation is easy, what has been agreed to should be implemented. Water sharing is more complicated, India & BD need to work together on both harnessing & using all water that flows though the two countries. Have a joint monitoring system set up enabling BD to have a say in when & where water is released and allow for being part of planning. That will also remove BD objections to Indian projects on the rivers since they should get automatic rights to be on any committee set up.Theoretically, such an agreement will allow BD to benefit directly from Indian dams upstream since they could act as reservoirs for BD too allowing for better use of water. This is the only way that a longterm solution can be found, Otherwise BD will always be at odds with India & will be dependent on Indian use(If BD & India work together, presumably water needs of both will be part of the planning).

Stop it, your sounding too sensible. Let's see if Adolf Modi can push these through now that he has an absolute majority? I still have my doubts, considering he's party completely objected to both deals.

I'm incined to believe that Modi will be full of surprises. Who would have believed he would call Nawaz Sharif or accept a visit to the U.S. this early on? There is a reason Sushma Swaraj is making her very first visit to BD. The message is pretty clear except to those not wanting to see it, people in BD should not let any fear/dislike of Modi/BJP to influence their behaviour.

P.S. : Modi won't bother with what his party objected to, the party will be singing whatever line Modi is humming.BD should deal with him knowing exactly that- this is no MMS

Actually it's much easier for China now that the BJP are in power in Delhi. The AL an Congress were bosom buddies, an dhaka felt close to them. With the BJP in charge there is a disconnect, an Hasina is looking to make friends again with China.

Aage aage dekho hota hai kya. Any country 1st looks for easy business and then think strategic. Bangladesh can do business with Indian Bengalis much more easily then Chinese.

And with Modi anouncing strengthening the east Indian region only means more buiness in East India and hence Bangladesh.

Btw, if you go by international principles, BD will pay heavily. India is among the most generous upper riparian state anywhere. What you need is better regulation.

Sorry gonna have to disagree, yes people of WB and Bangladesh speak a similar language, but culturally we are not the same. India can in no way be compared to China, we have many large scale projects, that need tens of billions, and india is in no position financially or technically to help, right now the only country is China, that's just fact.

Our first priority is to build our economy, and we are beginning to do that. What ever indices you look at, foreign exchange reserves, export growth, remittance, GDP growth, HDI etc we are on the right path and we are now growing faster then india. This even with out liberalising our markets like india did in the early 90s.

Our fastest growing trading partner is China, they are moving out of low cost industries and looking to shift production to more competitive parts of the world, Vietnam, Cambodia, burma and Bangladesh.

There are about a dozen major criminal dons/terrorists hiding in india, you can google them. Some of them have worked for RAW in the past, and are known to be receiving protection from them. They are wanted by BD, and it was expected they would be handed over, in return for our active search and handing over of indian rebel residing in Bangladesh as per international agreements. However not a single one on the list given to india has been delivered, while our NSI has apprehended dozens (and handed over), closed many of their hideouts etc.

Either the security services are crap, or they do not wish to hand them over. It's got to be one or the other.

Today there is about a million illegal Indians working in Bangladesh sending probably more than $5 billion in remittance every year. 2012 figure was $3.7 billion. 2009 figure was around 500,000 illegal Indians.

Indian Muslims do not send remittance to Bangladesh, because they have no relatives in Bangladesh..

I think Indians first need to understand that without the necessary infrastructure, the transit would be fruitless. Now the onus for building the infrastructure also lay on India. However, at present, Indian is not capable to invest such a huge amount (close to $10 billion).
