India To Help Afghanistan, Turkey Eyes Defence Market

.
If Pakistan with all its turmoil, smaller armed forces and less resources can train Afghan Military why can't India.

There is a difference between training armed forces, & helping build forces, as stated in the article. The US has spent over $200 billion on building the Afghan National Army (ANA) with nothing to show for it. I don't think India will be building Afghan Forces, as there's no point to it. Neither will Pakistan.

I doubt the 200 Billion$ figure, besides the report doesn't say India alone will help the Afghan Military, it will just make contributions towards it, in whatever way it can.

Yup I was correct, total assistance given to Afghanistan from 2002-2010 has been 50 Billion USD, out of which 20 Billion USD went towards the Afghan Security Forces Fund. So Bilal bro, your figure of 200 Billion USD is wrong.

India's military & Defense Forces are completely swamped with their own challenges inside the country, I doubt they have the resources to help Afghanistan build their forces.

You think?? BTW, the afghan MoD is seeking help on training etc and not boots on the ground..

And about being swamped, I guess you are confusing IA and PA ;)

From 1994-2005, India has had a total of 47371 fatalities, which includes 22492 terrorist deaths, 6728 security personnel death & 18151 civilian deaths. These figures do not include deaths from left wing (maoist) extremists. From 2005-2011, India has had a total of 5233 fatalities, which includes 1743 left wing extremist deaths, 1356 security personnel deaths & 2134 civilian deaths.

6728 sec personnel in 10 years... 678 sec personnel in 1 year..

Total Size of Indian Security organizations (army + Para Military + LEOs) = 47,00,000

% fatalities per year = 0.014 %

SWAMPED ????

Do the same for Pakistan and you will know what swamped means :D

Internal security is managed by Paramilitary forces .

Forces fighting with naxals are para military and not military .

U just brush India wrt Pakistan . I know in Pakistan , military is fighting against terrorists but in India it doesnt .
Hope u get it

Thanks for that, I read that figure somewhere, but of course I could be wrong. I'll get back to you on that, but I am sure you know that the US spends $2 billion a week ($104 billion a year) in Afghanistan, so I wouldn't be surprised if the figure was higher. Anyways, thanks for the link though.

The 1994-2005 is the overall casualty figures in India (not including deaths from Left Wing Extremism), whereas 2005-2011 includes deaths ONLY from Left Wing Extremism, which is why the figure is so low.

The Defence Forces are not involved with the Maoists

The Army is not operating in J&K except on the LC. The paramilitary and the RR operates against terrorists who may have sneaked in.

There is hardly any insurgency in the NE.

An army is called swamped and incompetent of it requires other countries militaries to help them to clean their own mess. That is definitely not the case in India. So, your post is not even worth 1 paisa.

Isnt it a Ctrl C and Ctrl V from another post? Wotever....

Just to let you know, because I believe you cant even do basic research using google,

Indian mil never interferes in civilian rule or was never intended to take care of law and order at the society level.

There were numerous forces for that.which Includes state police forces along with thier anti-terrorist and anti-naxal special commando forces and their own crime branches. And for extra muscle they get support from CRPF( central Reserve Police force)
CRPF in general compromises of over 210 batallions plus recently added 35 batallions with each have 1200 constables. Thats almost 300,000 which is divided into 10 sectors. Then there is a Rapid Action force of 10 batallions.
Anyone strongly believes this total pool of over 1.5 million policing the whole country is more than enough and no need for mil to intervene unless needed for special actions like 26/11.

When Afghan Def minister is asking for help, it includes many counts like from training thier officer cadre to arms supply.

If I am MOD(India) I will sell Arjun MKIs to Afghan forces at throw away prices.Given the strong armor it has, will withstand any IED`s while patrolling Afghan streets and border areas.
Aslo its a best way to record its battle effictiveness and crew survivalness.
